Markmiller2008
Hi all I have recently purchased Ashbridge from Colin (CovDriver), quite ironically the baseboards were built by me originally, so they've gone full circle. Colin's thread can be seen here /www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/96887-ashbridge-br-1980s-and-early-1990s-closed/page-5 So having set the layout up in the garage i set to planning what i wanted to do to finish the layout off. Ashbridge is already booked for its debut exhibition on the 9th November at the Solihull MRC show, so need to get cracking with finishing the layout. So far i have added some white metal station lights and a station name board, along with some new SR fencing around the station entrance and replaced the back scenes with Ply. The layout will primarily see a service of EPB's but also as the branch has a connection to the Western Region, Bubble Cars and DMUs will also be seen occasionally. Markmiller2008
A Fairly big part of the layouts work has been completed over the last few days. It was time to start tackling the Station Building and Canopy, the Station Building is two set of Wills Shop fronts modified and the Canopy is one and a half Ratio Canopys.Im pretty pleased with the look and just need to finish painting both of them. Markmiller2008
Work on the layout continues at a slow pace, when I'm not being distracted by bigger model railways (more of this in the near future!) When Shane and I had a layout evening the other week Shane proposed an idea for the siding near the bridge. The siding now gives some freight potential for the layout with the wall being removed and replaced with a low relief Pikestuff industrial building which will serve as some kind of MOD building. The building has been given two roller shutter doors at one end and hopefully soon will have a loading dock for wagons to be unloaded. The area to the left of the station building has been given new paving, with a market scene being added in the near future. I've also cut and fitted the new fiddle yard screens, painted these grey and repainted the front fascia boards in Dark Green. The layout is booked all being well for its debut at Solihull Exhibition in November next year.
Markmiller2008
Well after a productive weekend the layout is now looking alot nearer completion than previously. A Set of ID backscenes were purchased at Ally Pally along with a Train-Tech Ground Position Light signal, these have been fitted to the layout now and the 3rd rail has been painted with Precison Track Dirt. Now the next job is to work out a way of making some better legs and then making a lighting pelmet for the layout. Mark
Markmiller2008
Ashbridge went for a jaunt out onto the patio outside the garage this afternoon once the sun came out so that i could get a number of jobs done. Job one was to drill holes for bolts to secure the legs in position, there is some movement in the legs still which means ill have to look at some kind of support. Job number two was to start fitting the lighting pelmet, eagle eyed of you will notice this is the ex Lochnagar lighting pelmet being rebuilt. Next job to tackle is relaying the fiddle yard with a three way point to allow for more operational flexibility. The layout is available for exhibitions from October onwards, its debut currently booked for Solihull on the 9th November. Mark
Markmiller2008
Hi All Seems i need to get you all updated on the layout. The New lighting pelmet was constructed, partially using the arms left over from Lochnagar's and some Ply and Timber. The LED Strips are also the Ex Lochnagar ones and will suffice for the first exhibition but then will have to be replaced. I repainted the MOD building in a suitable Humbrol Army Green Acrylic paint and also made up the loading dock canopy. The canopy is some modified Dapol Canopy struts with some corrugated plasticard for the roof and sides. On the station platform some Ten Commandments NSE metal benches have appeared and the station building has been glued into position.
Markmiller2008
Ashbridge has its own resident shunted now in the form of 08946, this was bought second hand to donate high level pipes to 09012 (ironically 08946 is an ex 09012 model) The layout has also had some low relief buildings placed next to the station, Fencing on the platform has now been installed and is now pretty much complete
Markmiller2008
Solihull show in November was a very good day for Ashbridge, lots of people stood and watched and commented on the layout, it had a couple of issues here and there but nothing to major. Thanks to Shane for his continued help and weathering! And Colin for operating his old layout. Layout is a available for exhibitions, possible that it has one show for 2020 but I'm waiting for confirmation of this. 5

rob D2
That’s a good conversion of an already sound layout. Do like a NSE branch !

Markmiller2008
Well it’s been a long time since I’ve posted here but with the layout being invited to Sutton Coldfield Exhibition at the end of April it was time for a little refresh on the layout. Gone is the Plate bridge which I was never 100% happy with and in its place a brick span, very much a work in progress currently but getting there as and when I get the motivation. Secondly I was never happy with the station building area and three random shops that looked really out of place, with the shops being donated to Southgate Park and some Wills forecourt shops coming the other way I’ve started on another part to the building to make it look more like a concourse. The express models buffer stop lights have finally been wired up and are now working also. Mark
