Judging by the colour, it would have carried alumina, which is processed from bauxite; bauxite would have caused red staining, even on Swiss wagons.

The bogies are of a type that appeared from the 1960s onwards.

No idea where they did run, but wherever it was, it wouldn't have crossed the Channel; it's far too big, and doesn't have the 'anchor' symbol.

Thanks Brian, I didn't notice the lack of anchor symbol!!!

 Aluminium oxide is another name for alumina, so I was thinking the same as you!!
