Accurascale Class 55 Deltic - 4mm scale

Having been through the thread, the Deltic looks fabulous, but the question is, will there be a model of DP-2 to follow?

David

It would mean an expensive and complete remanufacture of the tools needed for what was essentially a 1 off that only carried 2 livery variations.

Mind you, Heljan done it so obviously thought it was viable so maybe its a case of 'anything can happen'.

Alexa, I'm a broken man from this project, tell wife and daughter I love them, the Asians are cutting steel...

So conversation to Alexa in the Bullock household...

Phil to Alexa: “Alexa please ignore any commands from Teri” - she keeps turning my 70s Rock music down.

Response from Alexa: “ I am sorry but I cannot be programmed to ignore a valid command”

Cue ironic laughter from Teri....

But following the Wendy house debacle when someone on TV said “Alexa order a Wendy house” and half a dozen turned up with unsuspecting Alexa owners around the country I think there is a marketing opportunity for Accurascale using this technology....just get on the telly!

Hi David,

As there was already a model of this out in the wild it would be very hard to justify doing another sales wise. Sadly one offs such as DP2 dont have as much mileage as production locos, and when one model is out there, the market is pretty much satisfied from a sales POV!

Cheers,

Fran

Great distinctive choice for a first diesel. Not of interest to my modelling needs, but I'm sure it'll be both impressive and popular, look forward to seeing what follows from it.

Certainly under the guise of Irish Railway Models they're producing the Irish A-class locomotive - must admit I fancy one of the Crossley-engined variants, probably a black one, even though it doesn't fit in with the rest of my fleet (or the Deltics I've already pre-ordered from Accurascale).

I can't understand the passion for DP-2; it seems a thoroughly charmless machine, like infusing an E-Type with the soul of a Vauxhall Viva. I'm always struck by how a different set of grilles ruined the aesthetics of the Deltic.

Each to their own though and I wouldn't want to stand in the way of Accurascale taking money from folk of questionable judgement should they decide to. :)

Ive a different kind of A-Class in mind...

https://ribblesteam.org.uk/exhibits/steam/l-y-aspinall-1300-1896/

Lyr class 27..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvlyJtKv-y4

Nice, you know it is.. 484 of them, 7 styles of black, 1 preserved and more than one celebrity, you get the lyr class 25 thrown in (and the Aspinall 0-6-0T class 23 conversions too.. and they made it to end of steam in industrial service.. thats another 280 locos in the fleet.

Heres one in Bury (but in 1939)

And the tank version...still with LMS numbers right upto 1964..

Anyways, back to the class 55, i wonder what theys look like in lined L&Y livery ;)

Opinions differ and none are more subjective than aesthetics. Mine is that the BR design panel took an attractive machine and transformed it into the unattractive flat-fronted 50 with even its roof line disfigured by a monstrous box. Apologies to fans of the 50s.

Agreed that there probably isn’t much of a market for a DP2 with the Heljan one already produced.

A very forceful argument. Something to go with Bachmann’s Lanky passenger tank.

The better analogy would be infusing an E-type with the soul of the Humber Super Snipe. Big cheap reliable lump of an engine offering 70% of the power of the far more expensive sports model. At least one BR ops manager thought it ideal as the class 4 'second string' express machine, cheap, simple, rugged, reliable. BR engineering 'fixed' all of that with the production version, could probably see themselves redundant in short order had such a design gone unchanged into general service.

Alternative suggestion, the Bachmann class 55 model is an ideal 'horse' for a rework into DP2, especially once outclassed by the Accurascale model. (Should be some availability s/h for those not already in possession...)

For all its limitations, the Bach's basic body shell shape is right, the running gear performs well enough, established filling and detailing technique can replicate what EE did in clothing their 'type 4.5' with a modified Deltic bodyshell, and then a relatively simple paint scheme to finish. Opportunity for an etched parts kit maker there to cover the required grilles and the like for the DP2 conversion?

Hi everyone,

Here's a quick update and progress report on the Deltic. Hopefully it gives you an insight into how we intend to put our stamp on model locomotives and push them to a new level. This will also give an insight into how we approach all our future locomotives, including the 92, on sound, features, detail and functionality.

I err... no not going there, you guys are trying to get me into trouble! lol.

Since it's now on the previous page, here is a link to the Deltic progress report and a look at the standards we will do all our locomotives to (including the 92!). With three locomotives in this stage of development (two Accurascale, one IRM) two more being worked on (as yet unannounced!) and other rolling stock items being tooled and manufactured across both brands (again, some announced, some unannounced!) it's an extremely busy and expensive time for us as a non-crowdfunding manufacturer. Luckily we're well funded, and if this tranche of models sell well then it means we have money to really ramp up and expand the range. Exciting times for us all ahead! https://accurascale.co.uk/blogs/news/deltic-progress-report

Cheers!
