RMweb Gold Bazza Posted May 28, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 28, 2019 Hi Castle, A brief note from Mike and myself to thank you for the weekend tours. I have been to Didcot many times but with access to restricted areas saw many things for the first time. Some of the background stories were very interesting too. A super weekend with Didcot and Fawley, I rounded it all off with a trip to the Glos Warks yesterday for a ride behind Didcot's King and to see the Caley tank. Thanks again Barry (aka Bazza) and Mike 1
RMweb Premium Coryton Posted June 2, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 2, 2019 A somewhat belated response as I've been a bit busy since getting back last week. Anyway I would like to say what a fantastic weekend it was. It was my second visit to Didcot and I've thoroughly enjoyed both of them, but this time was much better thanks to the very behind the scenes tour. (Last time I was a bit disappointed not to be able to get into the carriage shed at all...can't complain this time). Drew's commentary was very interesting (I don't know how he managed to speak for so long), with plenty for the not-so-railway-minded, like the stories of how some of the stock was acquired. Sunday was even better - Fawley Hill was even more impressive in real life than it looked on television. Utterly bizarre, with unfenced track running through the gardens, random bits of railway architecture and unusual animals all over the place. Charging up the hill by steam power really was an experience, whether on the train itself or watching it. The diesel trips were good too - the animals seemed to be a bit happier to get near, and it must be the shortest train I've travelled on, and the only one where the 'carriage' was shorter than the loco. Also good to meet some people from RMWeb "for real". I'll finish with some photos and a very very big thanks to Drew for arranging everything. 3
RMweb Premium Ian Morgan Posted June 3, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 3, 2019 Ooo, that's me in the red 'Basingstoke' shirt in the last photo, and possibly also on the brake van in the previous one.
RMweb Premium Davexoc Posted June 17, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 17, 2019 Been a bit busy looking after grandchildren, seeing Muse, holidaying in North Wales and walking back into mayhem at work after two weeks off, but hey ho. Anyway some of my photos from Fawley
