RMweb Gold Popular Post Adrian Stevenson Posted April 13, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 13, 2020 I have now fitted the sound chip and stay alive to 9659. Getting a dab hand at this now I have done a heavy weathering job on this one as it is in 1942 to 1947 "GWR" livery. Given wartime conditions, I doubt locos get much cleaning? I had not intended weathering it quite yet as it needs the buffer beam numbers. But the buffer beams can be cleaned back and the decals put in place, then the powder re-applied. I may eventually get some etched brass number plates for the Panniers. Once again a "mini me" has been fitted. Lez has done a couple of videos which I will add later. Cheers, Ade. 19

RMweb Premium nsl714 Posted April 13, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 13, 2020 Hi Ade, that’s nicely done on 9659, very effective. The glossy bits for water runoff I always like, that’s quite clever. -Zach 1
Fastdax
The weathering looks really good Ade. I wish I had a much space as you to really run a train!
RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted April 14, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 14, 2020 Hi Duncan, thanks. Talking of space.... Today after a painting the picture rail in the living room, I went outside to enjoy the sunshine over a cup of tea and then ended up working in the garden all day. We have now had a re think on the position of Lez's proposed hot tub ( a pre condition of me having the cabin ) so instead of it being a few metres in front of the cabin we are now changing it's place. In order to take advantage of any late afternoon sun, it is now going on the left side of the garden closer to the conservatory. So my garden line will now run about 40 feet along the fence line and radius permitting make a right turn to go down the left side of the garden to the hot tub. (To deliver Gin ) This will involve some kind of lift out section as it will cross the conservatory doors. All a long way off in the future. But nice to plan ahead. Cheers, Ade. 9
RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted April 15, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 15, 2020 The GWR 4 wheel carriage kits arrived today from Slaters. These will be a long term project. But I will post updates as I go along as usual. Cheers, Ade.
Dan Taddeo
Ade, It has been a while since I last reviewed this Forum, progress has been impressive. I loved watching the videos of the equipment running on the branchline. They have been cheerful and uplifting to watch in times like this, here in the states things are so gloomy. Worst yet, in my home State (NY) the highest count of COVID-19 cases in the US! I've been in lock down for nearly a month and half. Local businesses have shut down, food stores at times are low of necessities including food. I have a little girl of 9 months, that I do not want to risk exposure to this nasty mutated bug. In her short time with us she has been through alot. Born prematurely, heart surgery, and now this bug. Times have been very trying these days. As things stand in my home state NY there are some 213k cases confirmed, 14k who have unfortunately perished and only 27.5k that have recovered. Those numbers make me depress. BUT on the other hand I can't imagine what many of the other countries are going through in these times, especially Italy, or even refuge in camps so many many families impacted by this nasty bug, my heart aches for them. I hope that all of you in UK, yourself included Ade, your families all remain safe and healthy! Thanks for posting and keep up the Good work and inspiration on the Branchline! I was looking at ordering the Full Brake version just this morning. I don't think I would be able to do a decent paint job on them, so was looking at the pre-printed sides version. Your layout is coming along great - watching with interest. 1
RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted April 16, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 16, 2020 Hi Dan, thanks for the kind comments. We will try and do another video with two engines running next. Sounds like you have a lot on your plate. One of my Grandsons had a heart problem at birth. Various op's, pacemaker fitted, then aged 3 the big op to turn his back to front heart around. He is fine now and aged 8. Living in a rural enviroment we are very lucky and I don't know of any Convid19 cases locally. Stay safe and don't take any chances. Cheers, Ade.

Your layout is coming along great - watching with interest. Hi, well this afternoon I started the build on the first of the carriages, the T34 Brake Compo. This is my first Slaters kit. Everything is fairly straight forwards. One comment is the carrier sprues are quite thick and the joints to the parts are rather substantial. So the parts require careful snipping of the sprue and then cutting and filing. The brass etches are nice and easy to remove. Here is a pic of today's progress. The chassis comprises of the plastic spider underframe, solebars and buffer beams. The vac cylinder assembly is a bit fiddly and requires several half mil holes drilling for the brass rods. What you see in the pic represents about 4 hours work. Adhesives used were Mekpak from Slaters and Gorilla superglue. No soldering done yet. I am enjoying the build. Cheers, Ade.

RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted April 17, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 17, 2020 Once again decorating today, (wallpapering the chimney breast) so modelling time very limited. I have been working on the body sides tonight. As I mentioned before, the sprues are heavy. The guards ducket window frames are very thin about 1mm thick around the window at one point so extreme care is need taking these off the sprue. These are now glued in place (before taking the body side off the sprue as recommended). I have also cleaned up the body ends and compartment panels. Door vents glued in place and the seats are now made up. One body side has been freed from the sprue and cleaned up. Cheers, Ade. 15

RMweb Gold Popular Post Adrian Stevenson Posted April 18, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 18, 2020 I have spent all afternoon working on the carriage. Done more work on the chassis and this is coming along well. I have also done more work on the body, cleaned up the roof and drilled the holes for the ventilators etc. You have a cut your own floor from a sheet of Plasticard supplied. Drilled out the 0.5mm holes for the door handles etc on the body sides. This done, I thought that I would assemble the body, so I glued the sides to the ends inserted the floor. All nice and square and fitted together well. It was only then I made the horrible realisation that they had supplied two identical body sides. (See my pic from yesterday) I had not noticed this! Luckily I managed to remove one side before the cement had fully taken hold....Had I not looked where the compartments were to be located, I could easily put this aside to set and then it would have been a real disaster. The plastic parts are not numbered and there are few diagrams in the instructions. This has set me back several hours work now. Given I had bought two brake compo T34's, I decided to open the other still sealed box. Low and behold this had two identical sides enclosed BUT the good thing is they are the opposite side to the ones in this pack! Cheers, Ade. 16 1
