I did consider doing that, but actually bridges over the railway are very rare on the C&HPR, however I'm quite taken with this little road bridge

Thanks mate, yes its working quite well, it gives me achievable short-term goals, and means that I have room to work on them.

Thanks Kev, I would quite like to have a go at modelling some water, but sadly one of the defining attributes of the area is that the line runs mostly on top of a limestone plateau, and therefore a free body of water is rare. In fact one of the main traffic flows over the line were water tenders to supply outlying communities and industry.

The other area of great interest is the section to the north of the Hoffman Kiln at Harpur Hill, with the wagon repair shops. I'd post some pictures, but the moderators will doubtless object! Hopefully you know where I mean.

Yeah, the wagon repair shops would be a good area to model, but it would have to be a stand-alone alternative, rather than a continuation of what I have.

I've made a start on the latest C&HPR module - it's increasingly NOT Ladmanlow, but I guess it makes sense to keep it all in one thread rather than starting another one, hence the change of topic title.

 

So, here's the basic frame of the module being nailed together:

 

 

19mm ply ends, and 6mm ply sides, with timber reinforcement.

 

Here's the complete frame, with a bit of paintage:

 

 

Then some 6mm ply for the trackbed:

 

 

You can see lots of scribbled out pencil lines, as I try out various track layouts, using the right-hand small point, and some old Peco Flexi-trak.

 

The actual final layout will be done using C&L Code75, but the Peco stuff is better for testing, as you can shape it to a curve and it will stay more or less how you put it, the C&L tends to want to flip back to straight.

 

 

 

 

When I'm happy with the layout of the track I will cut the ply to suit.

 

That's more or less where I've got to today.

Looking forward to seeing Ladmanlow in BRM, well done Al, you must be pleased with that. You made a good start with the new module, I'm getting a bit of a soft spot for the C&HP railway looks a lovely part of the world to model.

Thanks very much Steve. Yep, very pleased and proud to have been invited to feature Ladmanlow.

 

The C&HPR is a great railway to model, I just wish I had room to model some of the bigger, more iconic features, but I'm having fun with these little modules, and it should be possible to join them all up at some point.

It took me nearly 6 months to build and detail the station building for Bakewell, mate, so don't worry about it, the end result is what counts.

 

Remember, it's not a race.

Not any more mate, all the 4mm has to go. No room for even a tiny Layout other than Seven Mills now. I was going to keep a few bits like the 16T Minerals and the 08, but the 08 was Sold this morning and the Minerals and other bits are on Flea Bay.

So there you have it, strait from the horses mouth, just 7mm from now on.

 

Or at least for the time being.

I carried on with the Steeplehouse module this evening.

 

First, I attached it to the main Ladmanlow board, to line everything up:

 

 

 

 

 

 

Once I'd done that, I butchered the plywood with a jigsaw, resulting in this:

 

 

Then I turned it upside down and added the abutments for the bridge under the branch line:

 

 

 

 

and then added the road surface:

Continuing with Steeplehouse, I've been adding the road, and the basic landscape over the last couple of evenings. It's a bit of a slow process, as everything is glued with PVA which takes a while to set, and everything has to be weighted down, so I can only do a little at a time.

And that's where we are tonight. In the morning I can remove those weights, and see how things look.

This is great Al - I love the idea of C&HPR modules. I saw your track plan and also immediately thought of Steeplehouse! I wish I was as quick as you with construction - I’ve just laid the final piece of track on Middleton Top. It’s only taken two months to get there.

As I said to Chris earlier, it's not a race, we all model at our own pace, I've just been lucky (!) to be working from home at the moment, which means I can sneak the odd half hour through the day to stick another bit down.
