Thanks Martyn, if only there was a way of transplanting the countryside into my cellar. Photo backscenes just don't look the same.

Al.

Have you checked out Richard's / Ben Alder / The Far North Line? His backscene is commercial but looks amazing in a smallish room.

Thanks Andy.

Yes there's quite a few layouts where the photo backscenes work well - Black Country Blues and CK's Bethesda Sidings for instance, but really I'm talking about the ability to take a shot of the layout from any angle with the scenery behind it - something you just can't do with a photo backscene.

Ladmanlow, although primarily designed to be viewed from one side, has some great opportunities from what would normally be the back, or along it's length: and in that case a photo backscene wouldn't work.

Those photo's are stunning Al, it's a credit to your modelling that the layout blends in seamlessly with the real background, the colours, weathering etc are spot on.

It's hard to believe that the layout is sitting on a paste table!

Morning Rob, yes that's right. It was an early attempt meant to represent some of the water tenders used on the line.

I know now that most of them were actual ex-locomotive tenders, and when I can find some older model tenders I'll have a better go at modelling what they looked like.

Cheers mate,

Al.

Thanks mate, much appreciated.

Here's a few of my brother's shots. He uses a full-size Olympus DSLR, so whilst these are cropped - sometimes quite heavily - the detail and sharpness is still there.

Love these photos, I'd happily have those framed and hung on the wall. :good:

Just a shame the backscene isn't as realistic as the layout :P
