G'Day Folks

No, you've got to think BIG, you need something like ' Landie World' a bit like Disneyworld but better, and all the rides are made from old Landrover's, big dippers, water slides, merry go rounds, etc, Restaurants where you can 'Fine dine' in the back of rusty Landie's.

Or have a landie in a shed being rebuilt, one somewhere else being serviced and loads of old ones laying around that can be robbed for spares. This is what the man who used to service my series III had. He really knew his stuff, not only did he really know his stuff, he was a genuine enthusiast.

We had an A35 when I was a nipper. It started life as a van but dad put windows in the sides and fitted rear seats. It also had semaphore indicators. It didn't matter though it was still a hunk of junk, he rolled it one night coming home from a prayer meeting in Winslow. I could never figure out how he got up enough speed to roll it and he wasn't very forthcoming about it. Then we got a proper car, a Zephier 4 Mk 2 it was an ex-RN staff car compared to the Austin it was a palace. Mum loved it!

A slight departure from sheds and Land Rovers this morning.

ladmanlow1708.jpg.43178fe580afcf7520897f8c818d58a7.jpg

You know what this means...  Yes, Ladmanlow has been on its travels again.

So at 6 o'clock I got up and loaded the Discovery, and set off for the usual place.

Here's the layout set up:

Here's a couple of views along the length, including the extra unfinished module I added to allow trains to travel off the embankment:

But the object of today's exercise was this:

YES! The first bit of video taken on location.

There will be more to follow, but it needs editing.

Technical bit.

For those of you interested, these are the bits that allow me to run the layout miles from the nearest mains plug:

First, a car battery boost / starter set:

Second, a 12V DC to 240V AC inverter:

Third (not really essential) a normal 13Amp extension lead, into which the Procab power supply is plugged:

And that's it. It performed flawlessly, no different to being at home.

(I admit to testing it all very thoroughly before embarking on this adventure).

The only thing I forgot was the CDU to power the points... :punish:

Thanks for looking,

Al.

Oh, and speaking of Land Rovers... (we weren't, but anyway) here's a short clip of the Discovery meandering back down from the location where I take the photos from. Note that with a very delicate railway layout and rolling stock in the back, I'm not by any means racing! Low box first gear and let it tootle down at idle.

Thanks for looking,

Yeah, I hadn't got anything suitable to jam under the join to level it off. At home, on the level framework, it's perfectly fine, but that pasting table has a dip in the middle which threw everything off.

Back to the farmyard scene then, and I've been planning how it would look.

I will build a new module which will be the same dimensions as the Ladmanlow add-ons, so roughly 2 foot by 18 inches, and lay it out like this:

diorama-idea001.jpg.ae1794168dd4cc615a49399712f36753.jpg

The trackway on the right will slope up from front to back, and the courtyard area will be mostly level. The ground will rise to the left side of the module, to be higher than the courtyard level.

The buildings will be arranged as shown, with "A" being the existing barn, "B" being the existing cowshed, and "C" being the new cart shed which will house the Land Rover. These are portrayed to scale.

I'm hoping to capture this sort of feel - although without the modern big barns:

Thanks for looking,

Having been inspired by your outdoor layout photography, I have sought somewhere local to do similar things. All that I have found at the moment is either not open enough of full of s***p! Not to mention barbed wire fences and "Keep Out" notices.

Still, plenty of time yet. The scenery modules haven't even been started.
