YEC Class 02 Shunter

I’m currently doing up an eBay acquisition, a DJH Class 02 diesel Shunter

 

 

Weekend before last I visited Barrow Hill and took loads of pictures of one of their’s including this one

 

 

Firstly, what are these ‘bobbly things’ and why is it that the DJH kit has provision for three of them but I can only find photos of the prototype fitted with two? Were three ever fitted?

They are the air intakes for the Rolls Royce engine, many of these YE shunters had three of them but on the BR locos there seem to have been only two, the third one (nearest the cab) missing.
