Saturday 12th January 2019 - 10am till 5.30pm.
Sunday 13th January 2019 - 10am till 4.30pm.

Organised by the Chiltern Model Railway Association (CMRA).

There will be more than thirty superb working model railway layouts with a well balanced coverage of scales, gauges and prototypes. An excellent selection of specialist and general trades will be present together with demonstrations, static exhibits and society stands.

The venue is situated only a couple of hundred yards from Stevenage's main shopping area and offers a town centre location with the benefits of good transport links and car parking.

For those coming by public transport the railway station is literally just over the road and is joined to the venue and town centre by a pedestrian bridge. Services are mainly operated by Great Northern, lying on the route from London King's Cross to Peterborough & Cambridge. The station is also served by trains between London and Letchworth via Hertford North. The bus station is also close, less than a minutes walk away.

For those travelling by car the venue is on the dual carriageway A602 which is easily accessed by two junctions on the A1(M), one from the north and one from the south, with an estimated 5 minute travelling time from the motorway. Several large car parks are adjacent to the Arts & Leisure Centre. Please note parking in the Leisure Park car park is reserved for Leisure Park customers as opposed to Leisure Centre customers. Parking there and visiting the exhibition may result in visitors incurring a parking charge of £100.

On the door Admission charge is £10 per Adult. Up to two children, aged 5 to 15 will be admitted FREE with each paying adult.

Charge for additional or unaccompanied children is £4.

Where do you recommend parking then when visiting the exhibition by car.

I know where NOT to park, in the Stevenage Leisure Park on the far side of the Station.

It is only for those using the various facilities within the Leisure Park. It is privately owned with CCTV and you will receive a PCN if you are caught parking your vehicle there and then leaving the Leisure Park to go across the Station Bridge to the Venue opposite where the exhibition is being held.  For the last 2 years since this exhibition has been held there I have seen quite a number of vehicles with the dreaded yellow tickets affix to their window screens.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

This post from Adrian regarding last year's exhibition might help;

Not being a regular visitor to Stevenage, I don't know if the parking charges have changed much.

The Leisure Centre is to the east of the railway station and has several ground level car parks. A little further away are the town's multi-storeys.

The rates vary for the car parks shown with the most expensive ones being the two railway station ones - marked as RS and RN.

If you wish to keep your car parking charges to a minimum it is best to visit on the Sunday where the rate for all the car parks - except for the railway station ones - is currently £2.00 for all day.

Note the one marked P is reserved for exhibitors on the Saturday and Sunday.

As warned above the very large car parks to the west of the station - off the plan to the left - are for the Leisure Park, not the Leisure Centre, and although free for users of the Park will attract a PCN with a charge of £100 should you leave your car there and walk over the footbridge to the station and the exhibition venue.

I am looking forward to seeing Tollesbury with the tidal flow. It's a place I've sailed into several times.[/quote

Yes, it does attract attention; and it is a marvellous layout.I think it looks better with the tide out, so, whilst you are stranded, take a careful look at the marshland back scene—- fantastic!

Plus a new layout from Peter North - Set in 1934 the layout will be making its debut at the exhibition

That's the icing on the cake for me amongst what is already an excellent list of layouts. I can't wait to find out what it is at the show.

Just to say that BEIJIAO - our Chinese HO layout - will finally be attending the CMRA show in January. Whilst Stevenage is technically not our first exhibition, it's our second, the layout will be significantly more finished than at our first showing in Bristol earlier this year. I cannot remember just how many times we've let David Crossley down by pulling out due to not being ready - definitely 2018 and 2017 and I think 2016, so we're at least three years late, but we will definitely be there in 2019!

Ours is a very personal story of our travels to China to photograph steam and just to prove it most of us appear on the layout thanks to the efforts of Alan Butler at Modelu.

Here is a preview ….

... and test the running and check the couplings and clearance of the new scenery and  .... ...  at least, the van is booked.

Look forward to seeing you there, let's get the New Year off to a good start.

Cheers

The Clearwater Harbor Team..
