deltanw12
I have bought some Salecom T80-T toggle switches fairly common in most model shops.. I do not want to solder wires to each terminal, so can anyone advise what size crimp slide on connector I require? My local railway shop sold me Peco PL31 but these are too tight to slide onto termminal. Any advice or or a supplier name would be much appreciated. RMweb Premium boxbrownie Posted December 17, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 17, 2018 They are designed for round spade type crimp connectors not the 2.8mm flat type. Apart from soldering what do Salecom describe for use?
RMweb Premium boxbrownie Posted December 17, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 17, 2018 The legs are .76 mm diameter effectively (actually .76 x .76 mm) so you need a female round spade to fit.

RMweb Premium spamcan61 Posted December 17, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 17, 2018 (edited) According to the drawing the terminals are an 80 by 30 thou cross section rectangle, I'll see if I can think of any standard crimp that will fit that. Drawing here:- https://www.jprelec.co.uk/pdffiles/800-225.pdf Hmmm OK 80 thou isn't the thickest part of the terminal, forget that ! WIMorrison
The smallest spade connectors I have used are 2.8mm which is .8mm larger than your need but possibly as close as your going to get? You can get them here https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Uninsulated-Female-Spade-Connectors-2-8mm-4-8mm-6-3mm-Crimp-Electrical-Terminals/172400364811?ul_ref=http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?ff3=2&pub=5575376664&toolid=10001&campid=5338268676&customid=7a72b7d8-1df1-40c7-b9b9-31f2577ae2a5&lgeo=1&item=172400364811&srcrot=710-53481-19255-0&rvr_id=1786818406105&rvr_ts=bd9b3fc81670ab19e1154584ffcd1ccc&_mwBanner=1&_rdt=1&ul_noapp=true&pageci=f5bce108-5b44-4ec0-a549-002307d32349

Which is why I said they are “effectively” a diameter of .76mm.........and why I suggested a round spade connector rather than a flat one (like the 2.8mm miniature spade) as the flat spade is designed for a much thinner blade. A round female spade with an inside diameter to closely match .76mm will fit.
RMweb Premium boxbrownie Posted December 17, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 17, 2018 There are loads of round crimp connectors that small available as they are designed to go into multi plugs, you just have to find a similar spade/diameter size. A search of Farnell, RS, Rapid etc is all you can do.
RMweb Premium boxbrownie Posted December 17, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 17, 2018 A quick look at RS popped these up, the smaller versions have a inside diameter of .8mm so might be worth buying a few and trying, maybe different sizes? https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/crimp-bootlace-ferrules/1571216/
Paul80
Those round ones in the RS link are ferrule crimps which are for crimping on wire not for fitting on connectors. They are good for use with screw terminals though and I use them all time for thin wires.
brigo
Is there a mix up in units here. The terminals have a cross section of 0.080" by 0.030" or approximately 2.03 mm by 0.76 mm. So how will a 0.76 mm dia round socket fit on ? Brian

RMweb Premium Pannier Tank Posted December 18, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 18, 2018 (edited) I have bought some Salecom T80-T toggle switches fairly common in most model shops.. I do not want to solder wires to each terminal, so can anyone advise what size crimp slide on connector I require? My local railway shop sold me Peco PL31 but these are too tight to slide onto termminal. Any advice or a supplier name would be much appreciated. Either (a) Use a different Switch that will accept Crimp Connectors, e.g. with screw Terminals using Ring Crimp Terminals or (b) Solder the Wires, If not an option see (a). I cannot understand why you do not want to solder them on, it's going to give you the most secure connection. Richard
