Good news for Harry but is it mainly for storage of mainline loco's he has stored all round the country or a sign of a move from BH

Quite a few stories this week for the current day railway!

Call me cynical but the cost of keeping and consolidating numerous knackered and unwanted mainline locos to one site is what saw the end of Fragonset-Merlin.

How many coal hoppers are left on site? Scrapping them would be good business for Harry and there is a lot of money to be made in the next few years from the movement and storage of new and off lease Units, something that couldn't be done on a large scale at Barrow Hill.

I don’t think HNRC have loads of Demic locos scattered around the country bar some 08s

Most Mainline locos he owns are in use, either hired to a FOC or hired to a preserved line. He has sold a few on this year (eg 31s).

Presumably HNRC have contracts lined up that require extra workshop space rather than renting extra room ad-hoc at BH. That shed looks a decent size and no doubt has puts, jacks & a crane.

The article says that the main Yard & sidings remain with DB.

Who owns Barrow Hill?

HNRC could possibly be considering heavy overhauls (Component Exchange) on the locos that are on hire to the TOCs. From what I can remember of Worksop is that it is a relatively modern depot equipped for type 4 traction.
The other thing to consider with Worksop and Barrow Hill is the ease of road and rail access for the sites.

Wibble moment - DBS are putting more 60's up for tender. :jester:

Worksop Wagon repair Depot can accommodate 6 Class 58s, which it has done over past Christmases, however it does not have any lifting facilities for locos as it was always just for wagon repairs, the lifting gear being suitable for changing wagon wheels only. There was a wheel lathe also, however much of the depot was robbed of copper after its closure so how much equipment is usable now is debatable. Apart from a small fuelling point and the Train Crew depot building, Worksop has never had any other facilities for maintaining locos, all that being done at Shirebrook, Tinsley or Toton.

How much extra work Worksop will see when HNRC take over is to be seen, having known about him wanting to come to Worksop for quite some time, I have heard various rumours about what his plans are, no doubt all will come out in good time!
