There is no reply from Hornby about which Prairie tanks are on their way.

I asked last week after the engine shed blog and today on the FB post.

Presumably the marketing guys are working from home and only posting new content.

RAILS are showing 6145 arriving between 1st and 14th June.

The Christmas 2020 wagon is also on that list.:D

Why do they always release BR Black ones first? :sad_mini:

So the reviews don't criticise the shade of green?

But it's the wrong shade of Black:jester:

A while ago, Hornby released their Sgt Pepper Yellow Submarine train pack.

https://www.Hornby.com/uk-en/eurostar-class-373-set-3005-3006-yellow-submarine-train-pack-era-9.html

Maybe this is more in the same musical theme? Perhaps Hornby is planning a Rolling Stones "Paint It Black" train pack?

With revised lyrics.

I see a GWR engine and I want it painted black
No colours anymore, I want them to turn black

I see a line of coal trucks and they're all painted black.

For the 60 year anniversary of the Rolling Stones on tour in South Wales in 1962/63.

Have just viewed the photo of R3723 BR black large prairie 6145 on the Rails web site,  a small query - is the blue route availability mark on the bunker, located in an incorrect position?

I think the bunker steps are effecting its placement as most photos shew it just above the number plate. It certainly looks a bit high to me.

Hopefully the photograph on the Rails web site is taken of a pre production model, and the main production release will have it correct.     Not trying to "nit pick" at Hornby but having received an email earlier today from Rails advising the imminent release of the model, the location issue immediately caught my eye from the image they used.

The illustration on the email is not the same as the illustration used on the reply from knowledgeable  member gwrrob, which shows it in an accurate position.

Maybe I just " jumped the gun "

As regards the power/route disc:

Take your pick

For the model with bunker steps, best to pick the photo of the loco with bunker steps, no?

(Of course, it doesn't really matter because it's not a real Prairie - it's only one of the grubby BR Black ones... :wink_mini:)

Well that one is neither above or below but to the side.

Looking through photos there does seem some inconsistency.

The other two I posted show that with no steps there still wasn't a fixed position

The GWR didn't do any of that as they put it on the cab shutters or if none in the equivalent position. (but no doubt there are other variations:D)

Note the different sizes for both early and late crests.

4112 with small early crest and lined green livery would be an interesting variation on a model.

Seems to be plenty of options on the real things in BR days

As always, if you can find a photo (ideally two, one of each side) of the loco you are modelling at the time you are modelling it then you'll have a head start.

There is. Across all the tank types I’ve modelled the easiest rule of thumb is ‘near the number‘. I expect the same will be true with tender types too. Some classes exhibit more variety than others, and some have no marking at all. As above if you find a picture of ‘your’ engine at the date you want, use that. Clearly with repaints and works visits, there’s more potential for the position to change on the same locomotive.

Unless I’m mistaken, it appears from the photos above that it’s large crest = disc below, small crest = above. Were small and large crests applied randomly or was there I livery change at some point?
