The best I could manage with a Stay Alive was to avoid anything above the bottom of the side and door windows, so at least you can see right through the cab. LOL. RMweb Gold JohnR Posted October 22, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 22, 2019 Could be handy for other 0-4-0s. Caley pugs were well known for having a wagon (usually for coal) as a kind of tender.
RMweb Premium JSModels Posted October 22, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 22, 2019 I've fitted a stay-alive to mine, so have no need of the match truck. If anyone would be interested in buying it, feel free to PM me.

Pandora
BR had a Signal Works at Reading and their locomotive was a Ruston with BR number 20 in Departmental Stock listings. Number 20 was still in service in the early 1970s, how close is the Hornby Ruston to BR number 20 of Reading Signal works?

rue_d_etropal
nice model. bought one at, tested last night on club test track with setrack points and once it was run in, and track cleaned it ran very smoothly, very slowly across points, without extra wagon. Given the size of the loco, a smaller wagon, maybe a converted bogie would have been more appropriate. Box deceiption says 'wagon works version', but some descriptions suggest army, and badge does look like an army one?
SDJR7F88
Put together a short video of my Ruston, running both with and with-out it's match truck. Has no issue through my isolated point work. Superb little model indeed!
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted October 24, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 24, 2019 I received mine today, only one little grumble. The match truck, which is the old Airfix/GMR lowfit certainly shows its age alongside the Ruston. The rather undernourished buffers for one.

I think it is. But really for the price I wouldnt expect much more otherwise if they had tooled up another chassis/wagon to today's standards plus pickups which would have added a wagon price onto the RRP leaving it close to £100 which I reckon Hornby thought would put a load of people off.

You're thinking of the old Mainline model. The Airfix one was better in this area. 2
RMweb Gold adb968008 Posted October 24, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 24, 2019 (edited) I think the trick missed was not putting it with the DCC sound van... solves the sound issue, and saved tooling mods to two wagons to have pickups. Pre Grouping fan
As has been stated before a van wouldnt have been seen pernamently coupled to these for visibility reasons.

Mine says works livery, which is what it is, i.e. the livery applied in the RH works when new. The 'badge' is the Ruston & Hornsby crest/ coat of arms, or whatever the term is. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted October 25, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 25, 2019 Mine just says 'Works livery' on the box. The one in army livery is without any cab doors. I have pre-ordered an army one and been told to expect it in December.

RMweb Premium Nile Posted October 25, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 25, 2019 I think a permanently coupled van would dominate the loco, this was the first one I found. A close up of what's on the cab side. 1

Haven't got any books to hand to check up, but I think Ransomes only had one shunter at their Nacton Works whilst it was rail served and it certainly ended up painted yellow....... It is preserved and currently resides at Whitwell & Reepham after some time on the North Norfolk Railway......
Steamport Southport
That's another biggun though. If you get two and glue them together you might be able to make one. Jason 1 1
