Hornby - New tooling - Mark 2F coaches

I just went for the simple solution for a consistent rake and did some modelling, converting one of the Hornby firsts into the buffet.

Hornby have been adding Mark I coaches to their range for the past couple of years so it seems reasonable that they might add an RFB to their Mark IIf range.

That would be good. The mk2f RFB could also be used to finally create an accurate Caledonian Sleeper rake. Tooling up the more common BUO would be also be nice.

I don't know why Hornby didn't bother tooling the RFB as it's the one coach missing to complete a rake. The Hornby Virgin mk2f has a number of livery inaccuracies/differences to the Hornby Virgin mk2e, so I don't really want to introduce yet another Virgin mk2 livery to my rake, unless it matches well. 

 

I'm tempted to sell my Hornby mis-match Virgin mk2e/f coaches and buy a complete rake of matching Bachmann Virgin mk2f's instead (Something Hornby should have done from the start!). If I do that though, I can almost guarantee Hornby will then tool up the RFB!

I am looking for advice on renumbering the Virgin Mk2F. Any suggestions on what to use to remove the old numbers and keep the dark grey paint intact? Thank you.

A cream cleaner or T cut on a cotton bud, just rub slowly over the numbers. They will come of and leave a slightly shiny finish underneath ideal for fitting the new numbers to.

Cut the tip of a cocktail stick and use that to gently scrape the old number off.  Should come off quite easily and as long as you don't scrape too hard, the paint finish won't  be damaged.

Thanks both, I don't have any T-cut so I went for the cocktail stick option and it worked brilliantly. Now I need to try and put the new numbers on.

Hi All,

Hornby have a couple of MK2F coaches in the colourful Loram livery & I am curious to know how accurate these are…..

Are they simply ‘representations’ or prototypically correct.

Hornby items Nos are R40143 (for the TSO) & R40144 (for the BSO).

I look forward to your feedback.
