Which is an inherent problem with the market really. There aren't many models that would support competing models of the same class in the same gauge, at least with modern image. The 66 is the obvious one, the 37 and 55 are on the way from Accurascale to compete with Bachmann. Hornby's 90, 92 37, 66 55 don't really compete (or should I say target a different market) with the Bachmann and Accurascale alternatives IMO. But then as there isn't fear of competition the tooling becomes a cash cow, as its "good enough" for people to buy without alternative but would get obliterated if somebody else tooled it to modern standards. The HST though is one of the few things where I think a competition could be viable though. They are very prolific region wise, 40 years of coverage time wise and I would expect that most people who run passenger trains based on the last 40 years has one. G-BOAF Posted April 29, 2020 Share Posted April 29, 2020 Presumably if you use Roco rather than the Hornby longer roco-like couplers the gangway connectors actually touch (or close to it). The only thing to Hornby couplers are good for is the original Bachmann Mk1s where the NEM pocket is too far back. The coaches really look fantastic. I'd be very surprised if the tooling(s) which allow the current level of adaptability to produce so many variants of the sliding door MK3s wouldn't have the provision to cover the slam door ones in the future - that would just be prudent. Beautiful work on the model - a vast improvement on the previous Hornby Mk3s. Pleased to also see the roof colour matches the first release HST powercars too. The bodyside colours differ very slightly, but not that noticeable (to me anyway). I'll be attempting to remove the valence on the PCs as the prototype got the mods by the time the Mk3SDs came in. They do two specific types for the two types of HST trailer, but this does now make a 3rd? The other two types DO include couplings for the power cars.
