New Year, New Start. ( boxfile layout )

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone.

I have done a bit of modelling today, painting mostly and added coal to the coal stage, also made a start on the hard standing around the shed.

The layout looks very black but this is just painting baseboard it won't show through when I do the ballasting.

Here is a photo of work so far:

Hi Everyone.

I'm going to finish off the hard standing today and I'm going to build a small mess room for loco crews.

Things to do are ballasting, adding lights, figures, barrels, loco parts and a whole load of other details.

More soon.

Hi Everyone.

I have done a bit more to engine shed tonight, finished of the brick and added a roof also painted and weathered it, just need to put slates on.

I will have to try and take some better photos.

More soon.

Thanks Chris.

I am currently roofing the shed with slates made out of tiny bits of plastic card, it's very tedious but will be worth it in the end.

Here is a quick photo of progress so far:

Over all view, the water tank needs it's ladder fitting and a bit more paint work.

And a poor photo of the slates, it's going to take a while

Rather than doing them individually I tend to cut a strip slightly deeper than I need and then cut up each slab, leaving the extra width at the top untouched so that I can lay one rowin one go. If I want a wonky one I can cut a slab out of the line and add an individual one to the gap.

Hope that makes sense?

Hi Everyone and thanks to you all for your replies.

Chris: I shall try your method on another building at a later date.

Rodshaw: A smoke unit is a good idea that I may investigate at a later date.

Luke: I will look into those tiles.

OOman: I'm going to stick to individual slates on this building but may try other methods on later buildings.

I'm going to make some yard lamps using a method from Chris Nevard using barbecue skewers, a bent nail and ( different from Chris ) a roofers washer.

more soon.

Hi Everyone.

I have been very busy this week so I haven't done any modelling but next week doesn't seem to be to bad so I should be able to do some modelling.

I'm going to finish the shed off first.

Hi Everyone.

Here is a quick photo of the latest work:

I ballasted one side of the layout and made a puddle ( hope glue dries clear ).

Still lots to do but my time is taken up with other things at the moment.

More soon.

Hi Everyone.

Not much done on this lately as other things getting in the way also a new project I'm building is taking up some of my time too.

I will hopefully be getting back to this over the weekend.

Is this still progressing, or is Ynysbwl now the focus? I think this is a great model - looks worth the effort on the engine shed roof as you look down into the box (so it's first in the line of sight). Excellent use of the space.
