Leander
A few more of South Pelaw this evening. It is a faithful model of South Pelaw Junction and the entrance to Stella Gill yard as things were in the early 1950s to late 1960s. The junction handles traffic from Tyne Dock, Gateshead, Consett and the various inclines that fed into Stella Gill yard. The area is on NW fringe of Chester-le-Street, Co Durham. Most of the traffic is of coal, coke, iron ore and steel products. The legendary iron ore trains are hauled by models of locos based at Tyne Dock, and a banker is added at South Pelaw for the climb to Consett and its steelworks. Tell him to come and have a chat. Once we get the first couple of hours over we will feel more relaxed. We value comments and criticisms. One of our group, Phil, crossed the line daily to go to school but the rest of us didn't know the railway really.

Leander
All were aboard who were coming aboard tonight. There are a few more exhibits arriving in the morning , including a number of the members of the trade. We open at 10.00am, that's half an hour earlier than in previous years and the Members' Sales stand will be accepting items from that time. The Crocodile Sisters will be serving breakfast baps until 11.00am, when the normal lunch service commmences. Meanwhile here's a 9F on the hoppers. See you in the morning! gr.king
No location suits everybody of course, but I'm delighted to see this show back nearer to the centre line of the North of England and I'm looking forward to a visit tomorrow. I went to Slaithwaite a few times but the only time I found the motivation to try a Sunday trip from the East Coast to the far side of Manchester I had such a frustrating multi-delay journey and a consequently brief time at the show that I wrote off the idea of further visits.
RMweb Premium Mark Forrest Posted September 7, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 7, 2019 Just back from my visit today. Excellent show, as always. New venue seems good; same friendly and relaxed atmosphere that makes this sort of exhibition so appealing. Great selection of layouts from the awe-inspiring South Pelaw to the more compacted, but inspirational Whitewater. I managed to get everything from my (extensive) shopping list, so thanks to all the traders who helped to empty my wallet! 5

88D
Best venue and food for yoinks. The layouts and trade weren’t half bad either! Excellent. 1
Kelly
Unfortunately this year having to give the show a miss due to financial constraints. A shame as it is usually one of the best shows I visit each year, hopefully next year. (missed Bracknell too due to a wedding clashing). 1
Persephone
I think the move across to the dark side has paid off. Despite having to have my visa checked at the border post on the M62, and my Visa card checked considerably at the EMGS stores, the show had more people and a buzz about it it hasn't had for a few years now. The hall(s) are an improvement on Partington, and even though there are 3, they are all together so the show seamlessly morphs into one without negotiating any corridors. Its all a bit more appealing and cleaner than the previous halls both at Urmston and Partington. The catering, maybe a bit over hyped on here I thought before attending, actually was the best I've had at an exhibition for ages. Layout selection was good, South Pelaw magnificent albeit seemingly having a few gremlins early doors, was more settled later. Great variety of trade which sated a few needs for the new layout. A box of the new EM PECO track was acquired along with a selection of Exactoscale chairs and rail so that once the new boards arrive from Tim Horn, work can commence on Greenbooth. 5 stars from me, ticked all the boxes for a well rounded finescale show but more importantly, the move seems to have given it a shot in the arm which has been sadly needed for a while. Well done chaps (and chappesses), excellent. Edit: Oh and if you were umming and ahhing about going, just go lol. PenrithBeacon
I thought the modelling was superb and the trade was good too. The venue I thought has been overhyped and parking the car at 11 ish was a problem. I didn't fancy the catering, it looked and smelled too much like overcooked school catering for my taste. As the smell permiated the joint I left earlier than I was planning to do so that extent it was a disappointment. I thought that as this show is one of the two flagship shows of the Society it should have been larger but I doubt if a larger show could be held on the premises. My verdict is great modelling, good trade but issues elsewhere. Regards
