Off topic as the 25s had long gone by about 2005 when some sort of shambles affected the WCML at Bletchley. Pendolinos etc were being switched from the down slow to down fast at Bletchley North via the "middle long siding" crossover. We watched several drivers get our of their Pendos to query the route set at Bletchley station, "is it wired" was overheard, of course it was , Bletchley PSB the "nerve centre" never got it wrong!

Looking almost like it could be Toton or Cricklewood in the early 70's, shiny 25321 stands outside the shed at Butterley, after a heavy rain shower. March 2001.

I know a preserved locos condition is entirely uptown its owner but why fit it with a marker light panel they never carried in service and my preservation pet hate bloody headlights!!

They are not there to see where you are going they are for track workers and to highlight speed restriction signs.

So track workers shouldn't need extra warning at 25mph and if you can't remember where all the speed restrictions are on a short preserved railway you shouldn't be driving!

Cracking 25 on the Milks from Torrington, at Barnstaple circa 78.

http://www.cyber-heritage.co.uk/north_devon_line_okehampton_web_optimised/16 25 058 on milk Summer saturday 1978.html

There's lots of images of 25s on passenger, clay, milk and other workings in North Devon and at Exeter St David's on the fantastic cyber heritage website.  Wait till the suns out, and later this afternoon, settle yourself in the garden with a beer, and lose yourself in it for an hour or so.

Best regards

Can't say I'd noticed the marker light panel before, but now you mention it, yes it's wrong. The light doesn't bother me, it's only what BR would have done if they'd continued in service.

I too don't mind the lamps etc but BR were very fastidious in the early days of corporate blue (symbol on each cab) about the alignment of numbers with the gap between the horizontal (rails?!) of the BR symbol - so this sort of hurts my eyes slightly as the symbol is either too low (at least some of the 18 built in blue had the symbols mounted just below the cab windows to avoid the works plate - the last few had the works plate moved to the door - not sure if the symbols were lower but whatever, the numbers aligned as stated) or the numbers are too high.

That said, it looks cracking in that livery.

What's the story with that then? The pantograph's up, so presumably the electric loco is OK. Could the power be off in the station and the 25 is dragging the train out a short way? That would be hard work up Camden bank.
