What's the story with that then? The pantograph's up, so presumably the electric loco is OK. Could the power be off in the station and the 25 is dragging the train out a short way? That would be hard work up Camden bank.

Power was off for some reason, not sure why or exactly where. The electric loco's pan may be up, but I don't know whether power was on in Euston itself. The 25 dragged the train as far as Willesden, a few other trains were dragged as well. At Willesden, the rat came off & the electric worked forward. @South of 1E may know more?

The pantograph that you are seeing is on another train in one of the long centre siding and not on the Class 86 that the Class 25 is dragging. The Class 86 pantograph's is definitely down ..... Look just beyond the Class 86 cab.

Mind you I bet the 25 struggled up Camden Bank with a full train behind it... Clag everywhere

The raised pan does look a little odd, but it also looks like its on the same road as the 86. I'll have to get the original photo out and look at it under a loupe.

Lovely image of a 25 on an up clay at Dawlish 1977, on Alan Baylis's rather good website here:

http://www.class25.info/photograph_pages/individual_photos/770119_25225_Dawlish.htm

Old RMweb had some brilliant photos by Owentherail of this Parish.  One of them was of a 25 having just emerged from Kennaway Tunnel with a mixed freight (including clay). Picture looked like it was taken from one of the self catering flats at the Beach Hotel - long gone but scene of many a happy holiday for me from 73 till about 79.

Been trying to find that picture for days but no joy.  Owen the Rails pictures were really rather special if you like rail blue in the 70s. (And hydraulics, 50s both before and after naming, peaks, Siphon Gs, milk, clay, motorrail and that lovely LQ signal with the sighting board outside Kennaway tunnel, get you going).

Best regards - (Sunshine, a neat looking garden = Beer and relaxation looking at trains of the 70s - marvellous).  Happy Sunday all.

Not the one I was looking for, but it'll do nicely.

And then owing to technological incompetence I can't delete the subsequent link to the picture of the 50....apologies.

Thanks Owentherail !

Some shots of Keighley and Worth Valley Railway resident 25059 over the last few years.  Lovely loco, sadly out of use at the moment; it was suffering some mechanical faults I think, but then got badly damaged when Haworth Shed flooded a couple of months ago.

And a final 2014 gala shot, this time the token arty monochrome at Keighley

25173 to the annoyance of many sat spare on Bletchley HS on December 14th's 1986 Sunday morning Bletchley - Northampton drags. Many 31's worked but the story goes from a good source that the morning isolation overun and 25173 dragged 1S63 1245 Euston - Glasgow from Bletchley to Hanslope Jn . The 25 had moved as we returned to Leighton around 1400. This would have been the last local WCML class 25 passenger working too but as yet nobody knows for sure....

Is that a Thompson or a Gresley buffet behind the 50?

25xxx_Stanlow_Tanks_LB_21061984

The legendary Stanlow Tanks is the subject of this photo. A warm evening on June 21st 1984 sees a pair of unidentified class 25's noisily lug this heavy train full of aircraft fuel through Leighton Buzzard, trying hard to maintain 60mph on the climb to Tring Summit. Loading to around 1800t, this train originated at Stanlow Refinery in Cheshire, and was destined for Gatwick Airport (I think). Motive power varied, class 25's & 47's usually doing the honours, but occasionally a Peak produced, and even more rarely a 40.

Photo by Mick Barstow ; 25 140 at Bedford on Wednesday 15th September 1982....

Interesting first coach - looks like a predecessor to 'Mentor', the Mk1 overhead inspection/testing coach that's still knocking around today. The photo date of 1982 would coincide with the Bed-Pan electrification, so was it checking the new wires?

Topical as they are busy demolishing much of Bletchley flyover now. Taken from a passing train is this unusual Bletchley flyover view of 25314 with the UKF Procor vans from Aceman St to Bletchley. This portion will be attached to a portion from Horsham before returning to Ince n Elton. Taken on December 5th 1981

I grew up in Manchester and it was 24, 25 and 40's that ruled the North West at the time. A regular run out was to Northenden/Skelton Junction area where the ICI hoppers were still in use.

My dad used to take me here too, on the site of the old station when it was less overgrown you could park up and watch the trains go by.

Must be where I got my thing for the old MGR workings.

Similarly you used to be able to park up by the underbridge on Kirkmanshulme Lane in Longsight and watch the goings on at Longsight.
