Must be where I got my thing for the old MGR workings. Similarly you used to be able to park up by the underbridge on Kirkmanshulme Lane in Longsight and watch the goings on at Longsight. RMweb Gold The Pilotman Posted May 11, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 11, 2020 Growing up in the Thames Valley I didn't normally get to see many class 25s but here is one snapped on a day out. I know some people on here like a "where is this?" challenge so where was this picture of 25213 taken?
Nick G
25191 on an engineers working on the outskirts of Rhyl. Didn't record the date sadly. 18
Popular Post Rivercider
I did not take many class 25s, and I don't think I have added any here yet, so here are a couple in Exeter. Laira depot had an allocation of class 25s from 1971 (when they replaced the last remaining class 22s), until late in 1980. There were generally 10 to 12 members of the class on the books there, most of them worked clay and other freight traffic out of St Blazey, but there were also three Laira class 25 diagrams working out of Exeter St Davids. 25155 at Exeter St Davids in April 1980, Laira would lose the class 25 allocation before the year was out. 8/4/80. An instamatic snap at Exeter Central in May 1979, 25057 a vac only loco is taking empty Cov-ABs (and a brake van) to Whimple to be loaded by Whiteways Cider. 15/5/79. Another faded instamatic snap. 25057 again this time assisting 25223 which is working a local trip from Exeter Riverside to Exmouth Junction coal concentration depot, 25057 will assist up to Exeter Central. 15/5/79. 25058 runs into Exeter St Davids at the head of the 18.05 departure from Barnstaple. This was one of two booked loco hauled services over that route at the time. This loco was one of the last of the class to be allocated to Laira, and in October 1980 it transferred away to Bescot. 19/7/80 cheers

Owd Bob
It was the only one of the three in that pic' that i remembered and it was 25 235. I've since modelled it in 'O' gauge. Here it is again and two more whilst i'm on. Edited May 12, 2020 by Owd Bob Badd spellin' 17

The other distinctive thing about 235 is the position of the blue star MU symbols, most 25's had them under the marker lights. Good one to model, I might just renumber mine, even though I never actually had it on BR.

As well as the location of the MU stars another thing to note is the catches/hinges on the bodyside grilles. Modellers beware!

RMweb Gold The Pilotman Posted May 13, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 13, 2020 (edited) I was thinking along the same lines as Nidge (Laira-based loco, somewhere in the south west perhaps) but Lostwithiel is in a bit of a valley so there wouldn’t be the view of open countryside beyond. Given the bumpy nature of the landscape in that part of the world. I would be surprised if it is somewhere in Devon or Cornwall. Sorry for the slow response, I only just found this. Pairs of class 20s and class 31s were used on trains to Stanton Ironworks east of Derby until 1968 when the line closed. The very last train was a DMU special from Burton (?) that covered the GN lines around Derby and Nottingham on 4th May 1968. Bill Radford
( I think) - I never saw any diesels until closure between Friargate and Egginton - I lived not far from the line - within earshot - so never heard any. That said I did have to go to school... There was a weekend when the B6 Crewe DMU was diverted into Friargate - very early 60s.
