Can't help with the loco i.d., but enlarging the photo the signal plate looks like LJ 5. Couple this with the head code on the loco, I'm thinking one possibility it is somewhere on BAG2 (Birmingham and Gloucester) around Lansdown Junction - maybe the former Churchdown station which closed in 1964?

TOPS number over cabside BR logo, flush-welded gangway doors and dual-braked - the lead loco in the first picture can only be 25222!

Fenny Compton 15-11-1980

92220 "Evening Star" on "The Zenith", Paddington-Chester train, 92220 worked Didcot-Saltley & 6000 Shrewsbury-Chester. Class 25 to assist an ailing class 47 on an up train at Fenny.

Edit: I’ve added a sound recording made at the time, in pouring rain.

The Sunday Crewe-Cardiffs occasionally got a "kick out" and 25034 has produced here at Crewe for 1V11 1335 Crewe - Cardiff on June 24th 1984, small Sulzer music beckons for the Marches!

Exactly one week later 25034 was parked on Swindon Stabling Point. Haven't got around to scanning my photos yet. It was still there the following day.

Penzance

7502 & 1026 Penzance.jpg

This photo was probably taken in January 1972 when D7502 was employed on crew-training runs using a motley collection of condemned vans between here and Truro - here's my pic of one of these at the Truro end having just run round and ready to head back west (essentially standing 'wrong line' at this point). Local crews would not have come across the Gresham & Craven Equalizing Vacuum Brake until then ('VB-EQ' on the data panel which on D7502 is at the wrong end........for anywhere other than Scotland anyway!)

25037 heads past Dunstable Vauxhalls with the evening cement empties  bound for Northfleet on April 9th 1986. The 25 would normally work just to Luton with a Southern 33 taking over there. An  apalling busway now covers the track bed that at least 145 different 25s worked along over the years.. A photo from the late Tony Ewer (out of his lounge window!)

D5188 @ Mickleover early 1964 (I think) - as far as I know the only diesel to have visited the line before closure.

Not quite the only one Bill. Here's a not very good photo of D7538 on the Friargate side of Mickleover Tunnel on a frosty 28 December 1965.

On the last day of passenger trains east of Friargate, I saw a Brush Type 4 (Class 47) crossing Bennerley Viaduct on a holiday train heading for Derby. If you include DMUs, in 1963 there were two Sundays when the three morning trains from Derby to Crewe ran from Friargate. As a bonus, the train I went on also did the Potteries Loop line from Etruria to Kidsgrove

Nice one Bruce.

I grew up in Mickleover at the top of the hill from the station and would cycle down to the bridge when I heard a train coming from Etwall. At two trains per hour (one each direction) it was slightly boring standing on the bridge!

I saw the DMUs and have a (very poor) colour picture of one somewhere.

Looks like the (very young) secondman is driving and I can see the top of a mash can in the centre window - happy days! I was a secondman at Stonebridge Park in March '83 and don't recognise him so it could be a Bletchley or Northampton man ;).

Photo by Gordon Taylor : 7589 at Crewe in the early '70s....
