col_kilgore
Hi everyone , over the past day or two I have been working on this for the foreground of the layout . It's the Knightwing Portakabin office and I must say its a great little kit , it even comes with a pair of cute dustbins ! Joking aside it is a lovely model and looks the part once painted and given a bit of grot , just need to add the glazing and some window blinds.
Stoker
You just know for a fact that there's plenty of teabags and chocolate digestives in there. Nice job bud it looks the part. Just need a few careless kick marks on the bottom of the door. Maybe where the paint flaked off to reveal an older colour... I'd recommend an ugly shade of dark red. 1
RMweb Gold Kevin Johnson Posted June 15, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 15, 2019 Work is coming along nicely on the portakabin. Your class 37 looks great on the layout.
PDBV
Love it, superb work, I would pay good money to have that as a Display really nice idea
col_kilgore
Portakabin just about finished , and here it is on the layout , just needs fixing down. The blinds are made using the back side of wet n' dry paper and the company logo is just printed on normal paper and glued on. Thanks for looking as usual , comments orquestions more than welcome . 4
RMweb Gold Kevin Johnson Posted June 17, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 17, 2019 The portakabin looks great finished, I like the little touches such as the wet n dry paper for the blinds and the signage.
sb67
The Portakabin fit's in a treat, looks great too. I like the idea for the blinds as well, well done. Steve.
MrDuck
Hello col_kilgore I am new to the forum. I am looking through the different layout builds to gain inspiration for my layout build. Your layout looks great and I like what have done with the Sentinel.
Jerry1975
Very nice and clever use of wet 'n' dry. Jerry.
col_kilgore
A bit more work done tonight on another element of the layout , I decided the crossing type gate looked a bit old fashioned so deiced to go with something a bit more modernish . I had the rest of the excellent Knightwing security fencing kit left over from last years Cakebox challenge so tried a few different setups and settled on this . The stop boards were made up in a graphics program and printed out . Just needs bedding in its final position and blending into the groundwork.
col_kilgore
Well we have had a break in the rain here in Derby today so I took the opportunity to get out in the garden to set up a little production line. I have been making Seafoam bushes , as can be seen , just the bare Seafoam sprayed brown and grey and different Javis scenics scatters used for leaves. Also took some more pics of the latest progress while outdoors in better light . As usual comments , questions more than welcome , cheers. 13
1722
Absolutely beautiful less is more modelling. Inspiring. Inspirational. Hard to believe its just 2 feet long as well. That Sentinel has got a good home! 2
south_tyne
Hi Col, Haven't checked into your thread for a while but you've made fantastic progress and the layout is looking stunning. I particularly like the ballasting, ground cover and the weathering and colouring - superbly done. I hope you don't mind me asking, but if possible could you share some further details about your 'fiddlestick' please? (Worringly sounds rather like a double entendre!! ). How do you ensure alignment and how is it powered? Apologies for asking so many questions. Keep up the good work! David
col_kilgore
Hi David , Thanks for the good feedback , as regards the fiddlestick , pretty simple really the wiring is just a feed from the fiddle track and a feed from the scenic section , with some crimp washers on the ends , I use a couple of little nuts and bolts to join them and my controllers leads have croc clips on them , clip onto the bolts and toot toot ! As for alignment I just use a screw to keep it aligned and a plastic bolt with a wingnut to keep them together , the block of wood just helps to keep everything square . Pretty much a bodge job as you can see , but as its just for dining table use its fine. 9 1
MrDuck
This is a super little layout, I like the idea of it being able to fit on top of a table. The thing I really like is that it’s not to cluttered and the ballasting, scenery and weathering is brilliant. Your fiddle stick is plain and simple but very affective.

Don't do yourself down by saying it's a bodge; it is simple but effective but that is always the best method in my opinion! Thank again for your help. col_kilgore
Well its been a while since I last posted any updates , not a great deal of progress made although I have slowly been adding more foliage . Thoughts are turning now to the backscene and and I'm trying to decide between an enclosed box type with three sides or just a two sided one ( back and fiddle yard exit side ) . 8
TechnicArrow
Still looking stunning! I'd say only two sides for the backscene, to keep the open feel and variety of viewing angles. Also I think track stopping at a blank backscene looks very odd. The layout could also do with a small amount of carefully-yet-randomly placed clutter; a handful of rotting sleepers, old rail ends lying in the 4 foot, a depleted pile of ballast, barrels and pallets... RMweb Gold Kevin Johnson Posted September 10, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 10, 2019 Great pictures of your two trees layout. The Sentinel looks right at home on this layout. It will be interesting to see what you decide to do with the back and sides.
wagoneer
I really like this, the buildings/hard landscaping look so planted in the terrain and all the groundwork blends it together beautifully. Gathering inspiration for a small (and first ever) build, the apparent simplicity of your layout helps make the idea less daunting. 1

I was actually thinking the same after looking at the latest pics I took , needs a bit of "junk" to add that suggestion of human activity.
