Hi Dave, we used a company call ross castors to supply the aluminium box and joints, I like theirs as the joints have a steel section inside the plastic John
south_tyne
John, That is stunning. The scenic work is superb and the overall scene and colours are fantastic. You've captured that down at heel atmosphere of a line in its final days perfectly. Looking forward to seeing more. Cracking stuff. David 1
Popular Post Johndc120
A class 14 does the morning run up to Shwt with some empty sand wagons. it'll leave these here and run back to the main line with just the brake van. the afternoon shift will be back up later to pick them up. it's no wonder these branch lines couldn't make money when run like this! Arriving at Shwt First job, drop the Brake van Push the empty sand wagons into the siding Leave them there to be filled during the day Pull forward to run round the brake van Run round the brake van Set Back onto the brake van Depart back for the mainline when ready 28
RMweb Premium Siberian Snooper Posted February 17, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 17, 2019 I like the inclusion of the traps in the turnout, I can't remember having seen them modelled before. 1

RMweb Premium Blandford1969 Posted February 20, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 20, 2019 What a fab layout, it has just the right look of 1960s run down without going over the top. Your track work is incredible. 1

However the other members rained me in and I’m glad they did as it’s a case of less is more. Thank you very much for your kind words, I love building track, I find it really statifying
RMweb Premium Blandford1969 Posted February 20, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 20, 2019 Did you build all the point work which is next to each other as one lot or as separate items?

It’s a bit of a mix, the diamond and the 2 points next to it were all one, the crossovers were one piece but then there was a couple of odd bits which ended up being seperate 7 1

The track and Scenics look brilliant, I’ve tried a longer grass and foliage technique on Albion Yard and Shelfie2 , and whilst it looks ok it doesn’t work particularly well in 4mm with mechanisms and brake gear getting caught on the foliage. 2
marc smith
Fantastic layout! Superb modelling. This is very atmospheric, and typical of that era. I've often said, we don't see enough disused trackwork, or torn-up sidings and disused level crossings..... Such features were very commonplace for years. 3
Popular Post Johndc120
Had a nice evening adding vehicles and figures last night, it's amazing how they bring the layout to life 24
Popular Post Johndc120
This week I've been adding some more brambles around the layout. An easy technique with synthetic hair, javis scatter and mount spray. I learn't from my mistakes this time and have sprayed them with matt varnish to seal the sticky mount spray. last time they ended up covered in static grass 20
Popular Post Johndc120
This week I've started to do some of the painting on the RB crane, It's nice to see the traditional RB colours make an appearance and this corner is starting to come alive. we've also added a land rover which in our mind is the fitter who's come to have a look at something on the front of the crane 22

I have 4 different designs of cases done, 3 different point machines and doing a few other signalling bits. at the moment however I haven't got the spare time or the space to produce enough to sell commercially. Johndc120
If anyone's interested in view the construction of the layout, we created a facebook page for the layout shortly after we started construction. so all of our photos from building the baseboards, making the track and applying scenic touches are on there. https://www.facebook.com/Shwt-Model-Railway-836046339817669/ 1
dj_crisp
What a fantastic layout and a great read Sorry not on facebook. What did you use for point tiebars as that's something I'm just toying with atm. Cheers Will
Tortuga
Only just come across this and love everything about it. Nice use of the disused level crossing to make a terminus; interesting track plan for a shunting puzzle; and fantastic idea for shortening a lengthy siding. I’ve been trying to think up a way of doing just this on my own layout, so may just use the ‘abandoned wagon’ approach myself...
RMweb Gold Corbs Posted April 27, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 27, 2019 What an incredible layout, it reminds me so much of 'Bleakhouse Road' by the venerable Captain. It's simple yet extremely detailed at the same time. There's stuff to look at everywhere but it does not feel cluttered at all, just the right feeling of desolation.

In the end we found the best way was just to design and 3D print our own. I designed them as 3 different parts, the post, a large case and a small case so any combination can be made it’s surprising how mich smaller these are than the wills ones I'd put the door on that location case or some S&T type will walk past and make off with that clearly redundant relay.
