I’m glad you shared a photo of the Bachmann model as I had spotted that recently as it fits one of my layout plans next to the signal

box and agree it’s rather good. The Pylon is excellent, was that scratch built? Very nice linking to the back scene too.

That model marries into that very nice backscene really well. They are nice models.

It’s a great Bachmann model and certainly saved many hours in having to scratch build one , I visited a couple of telecommunications stations to research their layout and design . It would be great to see these being featured on RMWEB layouts .  Regarding the 1920’s PL1 pylon , yes this was scratch built from the original engineers drawings /plans , these structures are generally overlooked in the modelling world.

Not seen any mention of it, but the HKA's are out. I picked up 3 of them from Hampshire Models the other week, quite a decent looking bit of kit and a rake of them would look very impressive. A full NP set behind a Dapol 59 would be quite something!

 

One thing that does let them down a bit is the couplings IMO. The HTA's and BRA/BYA's of old managed to have working body mounted knuckle couplings, as well as the option of standard tension locks. Considering the majority of HKA's are 'inners', so have no buffing gear and only knuckle couplings, it's a shame that it's only bogie mounted tension locks that are provided. The gap between them if run as 'inners' is absolutely massive and just looks so wrong. A bit of a cop out considering how much these cost and that it was doable over 15 years ago on similar wagons

 

I've used #17 Kadees for the inner wagons, which does bring the gap down but is still quite big. I might look at trying some Kadee drag boxes mounted to the body, but I'm a bit loathe to take a knife to a £60+ wagon! The weathering on the ex-NP wagon is quite well done though, and the DB ones certainly grab the eye.

 

 

 

 

 

My trio are to be run as part of a mixed aggregates train, so join the 6 Cavalex PGA's I've got. Some of the weathered ex-RMC JGA's will complete the rake, which is based on the short lived, and ad-hoc, aggregate service that ran from Acton to Eastleigh around 2017.

Unfortunately the NP HKA's never worked behind the NP 59. When NP 59s hauled the wagons they were JMA's and had different bogies. When the JMA's were re-bogied and re-coded HKA's the 59's were in EWS livery

i wonder how many people rushed to buy them based on the theory of running with an NP 59 ?

 

I noticed this version disappeared very quickly from the shelves, which I thought was a little odd. Ive gone for DB with a few weathered NP to stand out in the rake.

I was looking at these last night but it said ‘not for sale’. I didn’t try to buy so no ideas if let’s you.

 

The Colin Craig wheels don’t seem to be available now, assume any 2mm dia axle wheel set will work?

I noticed that the similar LTF-25 that was used under the ARC JHAs is showing as not for sale. I'll try to correct this. Shapeways have undergone a few changes to their printing constraints over the years that these have been available and it looks like they have disabled them for some reason.

 

Regarding Colin's wheels, they were Keen-Maygib 10.5mm disc wheels (available from the EMGS stores IIRC). You can still get the brake disc etches from Stenson Models to go with them.

 

Please PM if you have any questions on them or if you want me to have a go at stretching them to EM for you!
