sawyermodels
Hornby's new 2019 catalogue is now in stock with us and I expect many retailers will be receiving delivery of theirs very soon. Just under 200 pages! We weighed one and it was 885g! I look forward to reading mine tonight and doing our 2019 order.

Just under 200 pages! We weighed one and it was 885g! I look forward to reading mine tonight and doing our 2019 order. DSC_1680.JPG I made a trip to Tesco to get mine: the special offer with Hornby Magazine. There was the mag. but no catalogue bagged with it. Cussing like mad, I turned to leave, and there they were on a separate shelf. Not bagged together but the offer was labelled on the shelf. It is high time catalogues and labels made it clear that a locomotive is sound ready. DCC ready is no longer informative enough.
RMweb Premium Islesy Posted January 12, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 12, 2019 It is high time catalogues and labels made it clear that a locomotive is sound ready. DCC ready is no longer informative enough. That’s a really good point, and one which we’ll try and incorporate in the future. This year we’ve added the ‘Decoder type’ to the ‘DCC Ready/Fitted’ labels, so ‘Sound Ready’ is the next logical step. 3
Ouroborus
Bought my catalogue and magazine in WHSmith at Paddington. Didn't get the combo deal. Its the first catalogue I've bought in 10+ years. Well done Hornby, looks like you got me my zing back

I dont really see how that could work, all DCC ready locos' can be sound fitted, just that some are more tricky than others to fit sound too - unless of course you mean that they are already fitted with a speaker? Easily fitted with ready made provision for a standard speaker (Hornby use a 28mm circular speaker for TTS) rather than requiring a bespoke solution dependent on the skills and preferences of the modeller. Seems a sensible suggestion to me.
RMweb Gold Matt C Posted January 12, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 12, 2019 Picked up catalogue and mag on offer today at our Tescos but its NOT on the magazine rack but on a promotion shelf above the newspaper stand along with the Airfix Mag and catalogue promotion
RMweb Gold JohnR Posted January 12, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 12, 2019 The catalogue is amazing - more information than in many Bookazines I've seen. Only disappointing thing is there is no price list.

RMweb Premium Coryton Posted January 12, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 12, 2019 The catalogue is amazing - more information than in many Bookazines I've seen. Only disappointing thing is there is no price list. Quite a change from the emergency catalogue-let a few years ago. I don't need one. I really don't need one. But it does look rather nice. RMweb Premium it's-er Posted January 12, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 12, 2019 I can’t remember any cataclogje ever being supplied with a price list. They generally have done in the past, at least in the U.K.. To get Hornby 2019 catalogue and February Hornby magazine at the special offer price of £9.99 - see https://hornbymagazine.keypublishing.com/2019/01/07/exclusive-Hornby-catalogue-offer/ you have to buy from W H Smith high street shops, which includes those in edge of town shopping centres. The offer doesn't apply in W H Smith travel shops in bus stations or railways stations. So here in Edinburgh, you can't get the discount in St Andrews Square bus station, but you can at the Gyle and at Cameron Toll. It is a pity the special offer isn't available to model railway shops: that would have been an excellent way to support local specialist shops. Dick Turpin
I noticed the 2019 Hornby calalogue on sale in a local Tesco this afternoon. That's somewhere I really didn't expect to see one, but pleasing nonetheless.
Butler Henderson
The catalogue is amazing - more information than in many Bookazines I've seen. Sounds like its had a revamp then, the last few as well as the appalling mini one have been singularly pretty devoid of information. Have often come across them on club sales stands and flicking through them have decided the few pennies asked for them was too much.
RMweb Gold JohnR Posted January 12, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 12, 2019 I can’t remember any cataclogje ever being supplied with a price list. Certainly used to be in the UK, the practice maybe stopped in the 90s or 2000s when I wasnt buying catalogues.
RMweb Premium Legend Posted January 12, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 12, 2019 Sounds like its had a revamp then, the last few as well as the appalling mini one have been singularly pretty devoid of information. Have often come across them on club sales stands and flicking through them have decided the few pennies asked for them was too much. Its certainly full of information on the prototype. I’d say one of the best catalogues of recent years. I still think it’s a long way short of the excitement generated by the 1970s catalogues and 1980. Could do with a complete revamp. 2019 is a very good year. The catalogue reflects this but is perhaps a bit lazy in its aspirations . I think there could have been something better, particularly as there are samples of many of the new releases available. Hopefully the 100 year anniversary edition (from Hornby, even though the present range derives from Triang/ Rovex) will be something better and not just a continuation of the last 15 years? . Don’t know how long , but it seems to have been same format for an eternity.
bart2day
Certainly used to be in the UK, the practice maybe stopped in the 90s or 2000s when I wasnt buying catalogues. I remember buying the 2002 catalogue as a kid and it contained a separate of black and white price list inserted into the centre of the catalogue. Can't vouch for anything later than that. Can't vouch for anything later than that. Just to narrow the goalposts, I've a 2011 catalogue that came with a full price-list insert and a 2014 catalogue that didn't. Steamport Southport
I always thought the pricelist was a printed sheet that got put in by the model shop. They usually used to be put on the counter for you to take. But does anyone buy things at RRP nowadays? Jason

They usually used to be put on the counter for you to take. But does anyone buy things at RRP nowadays? Jason Its possible that the model shop inserted the pricelist, and in the days before the slow death of the model railway shop, thats where everyone bought the catalogue anyway so the pricelist magically got inserted, either before or at point of sale. Its all so long ago now that I don't really remember when the sleight of hand took place! As for buying at RRP, if you buy off the Hornby website, I suppose its pretty much defined as being RRP! If you buy off ebay, it can be much, much more.... Edited January 13, 2019 by Hroth

Unexpectedly managed to pick up a copy of the 2019 catalogue in my local McColl's newsagent/post office at lunchtime I would say the back page is a fair statement of intent for the 100th anniversary Hornby range (and catalogue): "2020 will be a very special year and months preceding, plans will be put in place to mark such a milestone year." "Hornby at 100: A centenary year to remember." Edited January 14, 2019 by MrTea
