The Great Bear
In looking for something a bit different to try my hand at making I have come across these two diagrams of brake third, D87 right handed, D88 left handed As I understand it from looking at the pictures in Russell and the diagrams in the Longville book whilst of Collett era they are conversions of Toplight ambulance stock with steel sides but no toplights on a flat bar (a la Bars I/II) underframe, with original paneled ends visible. I'm assuming then that the whilst there are no toplights as on the original body framing (maybe repaired) the doors, windows openings are all as per normal toplight brakes. Looking at the photos is Russell it isn't clear, but looks to me like they didn't have any bollections, which would be nice as one less thing to paint. Any support of my understanding would be welcomed rather than me invent a fictional coach or two... Thanks Jon
RMweb Gold 81C Posted January 16, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 16, 2019 Jon The photo is very grainy in my copy but I can't make out any bolections.
timbowilts
Jon, looking at both Russell books, GWR coaches vol 2 & GWR Coach Appendix #1, these coaches have plain steel panelled sides with no mouldings of any sort HTH Tim T, Modelling Cwm Cynon in EM
