All of D6700-29 were regulars through Cambridge, we even prised one of the boards away from the nameplate at Cambridge station to look at the name underneath.

I don't suppose you can remember which one you sneaked a look at?

If I was going to replicate the wooden covers, I'd use a coffee stirrer cut to the correct shape (maybe two glued together edge on to get the height).

As the photo of the preserved D6703 shows, you can't see the nameplate so the wooden cover is the only thing visible.

I'm certain all 3 had nameplates (with covers). My school backed on to the line; the school playing field down the road was also alongside. At lunchtime I was trainspotting by the Cattle Market and evenings at Chesterton Junction. So I had plenty of opportunity to see them. I can't recall exactly why I originally chose D6704 as my model, but I'm again certain it was because of the plates - it may even have been the one we looked at.
