Jim Jim, its not wrong, 26043 was unqiue and carried the yellow ends like that in service it is possible that when I get it back into service it may lost that look if there's time to repaint it. luckymucklebackit
Sorry Guys, I wasn't making any criticism of the team that preserved it, that particular paint job just makes the loco end look somewhat odd, somehow it manages to make the windows look smaller, my first thought was that it makes it look like a Lima class 33 conversion (of which I have an example) Jim

RMweb Premium John M Upton Posted May 14, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 14, 2020 Is former MHR resident 27007 still around? Last I heard of it, it was little more than a pile of badly rusted bits.
RMweb Gold pheaton Posted May 14, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 14, 2020 (edited) it does survive, its gone home (Scotland) to be restored, the reason for such extreme measures on the bodywork, was that 27007 was sold before the asbestos rules came into force, and being an un-refurbished vac only 27 it still had its eh hem...insulation...the results were the result of full removal. dvdlcs
At one time 27014 was the last vacuum brake only mainline diesel loco running in Scotland (or was it the UK?). Don't recall whether it was dual braked before withdrawal or not - possibly not as at that time the 27s were on the way out with the 26s receiving overhaul and Railfreight livery. Max Legroom
Apologies for the poor quality (I don't have access to a scanner so it's a photo of a photo) but I thought this was worthy of uploading just because it's a perfect train for a small space. 26038 at Perth on 25 August 1983.
