These Pickups Have Made This Train Run Better Than New

Recommended Posts

I have - and I had already bought some of that sort of phosphor bronze, but it was thick and stiff compared to the phosphor bronze used for the pickups on the model as fitted; the ones in the OP seem to be much more similar to those in the original model, hence the question.

Executed with superior materials choices and constructions than were seen on the likes of the Mainline and Bachmann split chassis steam mechanisms it is ideal. Some current mechanisms still use it most effectively 'unannounced'. For example I cannot fault the pick up and resulting running of the several Hornby Brush 2 and Bachmann Cravens DMU mechs on my layout.

I can (the Hornby Brush 2). Frequent stuttering at random, all round the layout. With clean wheels. Other locos have had no such problems on the same layout. In the end, I just dumped it on ebay.

With six wheels on each rail spread across two bogies, this mechanism should have no trouble with current collection. This symptom can be produced by many other faults, a dry joint in a motor lead for example. Worth working through the circuit systematically to work out where the trouble is.

I have been using ESU/DCCConcepts coach lighting pickups to replace the dire OEM  loco pickups on some of my Hornby Pacifics.

Quick question n these pickups. Are the two wipers electronically separate? It looks like they are. By that I mean that you can run a wire off each side to provide the anode and cathode of a circuit - for example linking to an LED with a resistor.  Thanks!

Yes they are - otherwise it would short the track out ;)

Ive noticed that adding these extra pickups greatly improves running on corners, where the wheel flanges contact the rails more, theres no reason not to do it really, in my case its changed my train from a occasional jerky runner to perfect running for only £2
