Munich/Garmisch January 2019

A few pics from the last week.  I confess they are pretty poor quality, due to the low winter sun playing havoc with rubbish phone camera - plus inept operator, of course! - but I hope they may be of slight interest even it's routine stuff rather than anything unusual (although I wasn't expecting a 120 on an IC service - maybe I should have been?).  Presumably the shiny new Twindexx will become much more common before I visit again.  A couple of questions please:  are the 111s used in top-and-tail mode because they aren't compatible with the driving coaches - or is it just a fault with this particular set?  And what is the significance of the grey Alex livery?

Hi totd,

It's still great to see pictures of The Railway (DB) and I've not been for far too long now so thanks!

My guess for them using top & tailed 111s would be that the steering wagon has failed and again, my guess would be that is the new Alex livery.

Happy to be corrected if anyone knows better.

Cheers,

Great to see the 111's still going strong.

They were stalwarts on the Munich - Garmisch - Mittenwald services back in the mid '80's, and they've really stayed the course!

Back then the livery was dark blue and cream, matching on the stock as well, but the new red looks very smart today.

John.
