Looking really good! I really like the lighting on your island platform canopy. I’m hoping to do this on my layout. Was it relatively easy to put together?

best regards,

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy, relatively easy as I designed it in to the construction. There is a slot at each side of the underside of the canopy to accommodate self adhesive LED strip. After this is fitted the finishing layer has slots the same width as 2 LED's and covers the strip between each pair. The exposed LED's are covered with a diffuser. The LED strip has to be cut at as per instructions - so this influenced the length - and 2 wires dropped at each side to connect under the baseboard.

It is 3D printed but would be straightforward to construct from card / balsa / plasticard - these are the components -

This was my reference photo for the design -

Different bit of experimentation/progress. One of the time consuming tasks at an exhibition is loading and unloading stock at the beginning and end. It also results is quite a bit of handling and some fairly inevitable damage to details.

To resolve this, I am adding a cassette storage system for complete trains. The idea is the cassettes are the same length as the traverser - which obviously is the train length limit.  A pair of hinged brackets have been added to the back of the layout and cunningly designed to hold a cassette lined up with road one of the traverser and plugged in with a couple of fly leads.

The cassettes are dimensioned to be a neat fit with closed cell foam liners to the sides and high enough to accept the loco with catenary raised. Some gentle trials show the train cannot derail and seems stable while in the cassette. The cassettes will fit 4 wide by 3 deep in a really useful Christmas tree box for transporting.

Proof of concept / pototype being tested shown but going to go ahead and fully complete this as its working a dream. and if all is well - make another 11 - well not a lot else to do really...... Ahhh - the material for the replacement pelmet for the lighting rigs has just been delivered!

I did a smaller version using plastic conduit for my Allegra and it worked well. I only didn’t expand it as the stacking in a hired van was based around a certain size crate and changing all the crates didn’t make sense when the one off cassette fitted on the fy in the van.

That is a remarkable layout. Just fantastic work.

I still have a long way to go on my RhB scenery. In fact, I've barely even started it, having only completed one end of a loop that just happens to run very close to DB tracks that were completed.

RhB will be the upper level track above the Re/420 pictured. That is the dual gauge line.

After granting your right to use their logos on the station signage I hope you sent them a few photos of your modeling skills.

Following the traverser on 2013 and creating cassettes for train storage, I have revisited 1913 to add cassette storage on that layout as well. The period stock really does not like to be handled and this should substantially reduce that.

First step was to add a demountable shelf behind the fiddle yard with a new point and spur of track which leads to the cassette locating point. Electrical connection is using audio jack plugs.

The cassettes are plywood with closed cell foam to the inside. Dimensions are not as tall as 2013 as they don't have to accommodate pantographs but just slightly wider - no operational reason but I have three nice sheets of ply in stock that were just a bit thicker.

These cassettes have been made to be used in either direction so trains can be run into the cassette, lifted out, turned and run in the opposite direction.

The whole lot store in the Christmas Tree Box, and I can have 8 x 2013 and 6 X 1913 cassettes in one box for transportation. I suppose if I wanted to frighten myself, I would work out the insurance value for that.

Hopefully, will cut down set up and dismantle time as and when we get back to exhibiting and limit the amount of handling the stock gets.

Thanks for the comments - close up camera of the overhead power system makes me cringe though and one other gaff I am not going to mention! The SRS write up and photos are very good as well - saw you got a mention and picture too with Raetia Paul.

I love some of the details you’ve incorporated and also the way you’ve captured the colours.
