Anyone know how to change settings for message notifications?

Message notification options are the only ones locked away as active.

Is it not in, Profile, Settings, Notification Settings?

Much improved appearance of the blogs, I think.  Nice to be able to customise them with images.  Clear distinctions between the main sections of the site, too. Well tweaked so far Andy, good luck in the weeks to come.

I have just tried to add some photos, we seem to have lost the ability to place them in the text.

If there is a way can someone please PM me in a language I can understand, not to techy. Thanks.

After uploading, drag them to where you want them.

cheers,

Martin.

That is what I tired. They landed in the order they wanted to not where I wanted them to go. I will give it another bash next time I take some photos.

I am I am sure a serious Luddite. Thia "upgrade " is almozt cert`inly the province of internet nerds .

Most of us are normal human beings who need simple easily followed sites  which the previous clearly out dated one was .

There is an old adage which states if it works dont fix it so why did you fix it.? From now on I will observe from time to time and no more as I cant be bothered with overly clever internet stuff which shows no benefit and ius merely a demoonstration of the triumph of presentation over content.

I think I’m in a minority as I find the new view messy cluttered with lots of blank white space around each piece.

I’ve only just come back on but I am finding it a strain on my eyes and finding the need for additional scrolling tiresome as there is seems less content on each page

To me it makes me feel that I am trying to view the forum on my mobile phone with all the scrolling

I am using an IPad can I do anything to make the experience more relaxing?

Sorry is not my intention to sound so ungrateful I appreciate there has been a lot of work involved in the upgrade.

R

Edit now viewing on my IPad from a darkened room with brightnesss turned down to reduce the “snow blindness”

I am inclined to the same view.

I must look about to see if there are any other model railway forums.

For those wanting their View New Content page, this is what I've done:-

Select the Activity Stream > Content I follow

Then within that, under the heading “Show Me”, select “Content Items Only”

Under “Following” select “Content items I follow”

Under sorting “Newest first”

Select the Condensed version of the view

I’ve pinned that to my Taskbar (Windows 10) as I haven’t found the way back to that view from within a topic.

I’m OK with the new arrangements, except for the recurring pop-up telling me the site wants to send me notifications on Windows 10.  I've turned off all my notification alerts on the site but it still appears (including the moment I saved my preference for no notifications!)

I'm not a frequent forum user so usually have to re-learn how to post each time anyway, hence nothing different on that front for me doh!

Thanks Andy for all your efforts and for striving for the best result possible. Only thing of note is it seems to load a lot faster for me now.

Kind regards from bermuda

Ian

Being a luddite its going to take some getting used to this new look (The old site was second nature to look at, and easy to use, I'm hoping that this will become so in a few weeks time).

One thing that I miss already is the little 'top' button that was at the bottom of each page, scrolling up from the bottom of the page is tedious.

I appreciate the work that's gone into the upgrade, and I hope that I can get used to it, but I'm not a fan of modern I-fone style programs and looks, as I tend to find them missing the useful bits.

Andy G

(Andy I really do think you do a fantastic job and realise that sometimes something new just has to be used, and that is has probably given you lots of stress the last couple of weeks. Thanks for doing it!)

Thanks for all of the hard work Andy.

Apologies if this has already been covered (I couldnt find it though) but is there any reason why some people's avatars just show up as a letter in a circle and others seem to have kept their avatars?

Is it a temporary thing that will sort itself out or do us now avatar-less folks need to do something?

Regards, Andy

I think I must have slipped a couple of months - this is an April Fool's joke isn't it?

This can't seriously cannot be considered a superior update can it?

OK Andy you've had your little joke on us all now please put the real RMWeb back.

I'm kind of learning how to use it but what is VERY irritating is that you can't go to the last post in a thread and when after looking at a post and pressing back it puts you at the start again of unread posts.

I know a lot of work has gone into this but still much prefer old one.

I used to be a regular on the maestro montego  forum and they changed to something akin to this and couldn't get away with it so left

Hi Clive,

If dragging doesn't work, if you click in your post where you want the image, and then click on the image, on Firefox at least the image is copied into the post at that position.

cheers,

Martin.

What exactly do you 'pin' to the taskbar?  Given that it isn't a permanent filter set (as I understand it), are you assuming always being logged on?

And does your filter set result in thread titles appearing whose content you have read?

Read. The. Thread. You are correct, IF it works, why fix it?  Answer -it DIDN'T work!  Unless you were happy with it's security flaws and hackers attaching it...

Is there a way of getting the activity feeds to exist at the top of the window? Its a right pain to have to go through loads of sub menus to get to them....

And the All activity tab is all very nice, but do we need to see who has liked what it that feed? It just needs to have what we used to have, the threads that have had something written in them...

Andy G

(wanting so hard to like this new look, but finding it clumsy like lots of new software, designed by geeks for geeks who have only ever used their finger on a touch screen, and not ever used their software on a proper computer)

I had a look during the downtime. Apart from some of the more specialist* forums they are all pretty poor IMO.

*Specialist in scale/gauge or dedicated to a railway company.
