Albion Inn, Verwood. Is this a former station?

Estate agents details say that it is, and its position relative to the road also suggests that it could be. But it does not look "right" to me     https://www.findmypub.com/properties/view/22442.

In 1900, there was an Albion Hotel beside Verwood "train" station, which is presumably the same building: https://maps.nls.uk/view/106009005

Hi Bill,

 

You are right. I have just been doing a bit more research and it shows clearly on various maps that The Albion was in the station forecourt. The alignment of the old tracks, which one can still see clearly on Google Earth, would be wrong for that to be the station building.

The Albion Inn was the station hotel. The station site is buried under a new road alignment and housing estate. Part of the original road alignment leads off the new road and into the pub car park and the old road bridge still stands and can be seen behind the pub from the new road.

Thanks, Arthur. I have driven past the pub many times and never noticed the old road bridge in what is now the pub garden. The NLS map that Bill referenced shows the old road alignment clearly.
