Dan Griffin
Hi all, The dcc concepts wheel reamer, is this the tool needed to open up Lima bearings to accept Bachmann/Hornby wheels? thanks in advance Dan
RMweb Gold Andy 53B Posted February 5, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 5, 2019 Hi Dan, the reamer can be used on any make not just Lima axle bearings so they should do the job, haven't used them but they look good, Andy
No Decorum
I got them to replace off-centre boring out with a drill bit. Honestly, I found them of no use – even pressing the axleboxes onto them very hard, they removed no material. However, I agree that they look good! 1
RMweb Gold kingmender Posted February 7, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 7, 2019 I too tried them on the Lima bogies of GWR Syphons, they remove very little material proving ineffective. I sourced some new 3D printed bogies from shapeways as an easy replacement.
pete55
An alternative would be to use correct Lima axle length wheels. Alan Gibson does a range of wagon and carriage wheels on Lima length axles, might not be in the catalogue, but give Colin Seymour a ring or email for details. Steamport Southport
The Peter's Spares Lima replacements are good. I replaced a few on Lima BR Mark Twos as a "for now" solution until I eventually replace the coaches. https://www.petersspares.com/peters-spares-ps34-lima-replacement-12mm-wagon-coach-wheels-x1-pair.ir Also available from Hatton's if it's easier to order from there. https://www.hattons.co.uk/392872/Peter_s_Spares_PSP_34_12mm_replacement_brass_wheelsets_for_Lima_coaches_and_wagons_pack_of_two/StockDetail.aspx Jason

RMweb Gold young37215 Posted February 9, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 9, 2019 I used a Micromark truck tuner to achieve the same effect on a rake of Lima grain wagons. It was a fiddly, repetitive process but ultimately delivered a good result. Also you should note that the tool will likely cost you in excess of £20 I suggest that if you already possess replacement wheels then a reaming tool is the way to go, otherwise DCC kits replacement wheels are likely to be the quickest solution 1
RMweb Gold ianLMS Posted February 11, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 11, 2019 I too purchased the DCC Concepts wheel reamers and found them pretty useless for opening up the holes. Not one of my better purchases and disappointing - I am normally quite happy with the products from DCC Concepts and they are very innovative! RMweb Gold adb968008 Posted February 13, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 13, 2019 (edited) I had this issue today, i bought 72 HO scale wheels for £40 from China, on ebay.de website. As a reamer, I just used a jewellers screwdriver with Phillips head, a few good gripped twists and job done to make them fit.
