It is good fun to watch the stone train arrive, pick up the one of the shunter's radios, propel into the sidings, be divided into 2 portions and then be unloaded. (Would've preferred your class 60 on it though!) Lovely photos there! I’m hoping to do it justice and be able to recreate similar photos! It's basically EM gauge but minus 2mm, with the advantages of improved appearance of turnouts and much better running quality (in particular with kit wheels - Alan Gibson etc). No need to adjust B2B dimensions on most recent 00 locos and rolling stock either. Plain trackwork can be retained at 16.5mm if you wish (and can't face making it all!), with a gradual gauge reduction to 16.2mm in the last 2 or 3 inches in order to connect smoothly with the turnouts (which need to be hand-built). All Track Gauges are available - try C&L. In Templot 00-sf is now referred to as 4-sf, since in the earlier (and often heated) days of 00-sf being resurrected (it's been around for 30+years, but not well-known) there were some that objected to the inclusion of the term 00 in the title, suggesting it was confusing things....... For helpful info see Martin Wynne's (aka Mr. Templot) info here: https://4-sf.uk/ HTH Kind Regards, Brian Thanks for clarifying the finer details Brian! FYI I used templot to create the template
Southwich
Evening all, I’ve finally got round to making up some boards for the layout! Due to the back of the layout being lower down due to an embankment I’ve made the frame up with the lower section being 1.5 inches lower than the main board. I need to cut the tops and finish off one end then I’m good to start track laying! A few natural light photos of progress: I would be keen to hear any feedback! Kind regards, Will
Southwich
A bit of an update this evening - the layout has been a slow burner because of other commitments recently. An hour well spent this evening making up an N Brass gantry - there are superb! Hoping to get the other two together over the weekend! Southwich
Thanks for the kind words. I have been slowly chipping away at getting the boards fully finished and making a proper start on trackwork. Managed to get the boards outside last night for a quick lick of paint - it’s incredible what a quick coat of paint and some natural light can do! First undercoat is on - the backscenes from ID Backscenes will hide most of the blue on the boards but I wanted to get the tops of the boards painted first. Hopefully get the trackwork progressed this afternoon! its finally starting to look like a layout! Will

Southwich
Thanks for the kind words David! I haven't had too much time on the layout of late but I have been making progress on the track which is nearly laid. Another side project was fitting LaserGlaze to a Vitrains 37 - what a difference that makes! Before: After: Very impressed - what a difference that makes! Hopefully will have more progress to report over the coming weeks as I get the track laying finished. Will
dasatcopthorne
Only just spotted this subject and thread. Where have I been? So good to see someone else building in 00-SF. You won't regret it. It runs so well. I'm really surprised that it took so long for someone to ask what 00-SF is. For another 00-SF layout have a look in the Layouts section for Falcon Road TMD. Keep up the good work Dave.

I think one day I’ll give P4 a go but until then OO-SF runs really well and looks so much better than peco! Would be interested to get people’s opinions on the new backscenes - are they a better option than say plain white wall paper or a painted wooden backscenes? I’m not sure! Would appreciate any feedback you may have! Will
dj_crisp
I quite like the back scene's it does add some depth. Really tempted to go for a similar one on my layout.
justin1985
At first sight that backscene seems to give the impression of a more rolling northern landscape than GEML territory? The architecture and landscape both look quite Yorkshire to me ... I'd definitely say yes to a photographic backscene, but it has to be either accurate in depicting the area you're interested in, or entirely generic (just clouds etc)

Tempted to stick with it and change it at a later date to something more location specific! Looking forward to more developments at Bisley! I, like you, think it creates depth but could do with a more ‘Suffolk feel’. I think I’ll probably leave it for now and develop something more location specific in the future! Southwich
Just a quick update on stock for the layout whilst I don’t really have much spare modelling time. I’ve stripped the paint off of two original Hornby 86 bodies and a Lima MK2 - both destined for Anglia green. 48 hours in a bath of IPA and some scrubbing later and the vast majority of the 30 year old paint is gone. I’m hopeful after a coat of primer these little blemishes will be all gone! And finally a quick photo of the Heljan roof details posed on the 86. That pan needs replacing! Southwich
Late night stone at Barham! Hoping to have the second fiddle yard in and wired by Friday, with one more servo to be added. muddy water
Nice project! Are you going for 100% Anglian on you passenger trains? Or are you going to have a mix up with intercity Swallow livery? Will you have room for a full rake of a class 86, two firsts, restaurant, six seconds and a DBSO? I think it’ll be a mix of Anglia and Intercity mixed in with some ONE and ex virgin stock in the 2004/2005 transition period. Unfortunately I won’t have room for the full length takes - I’ll mostly be running DMUs and the odd shortened MK2 set - the fiddle yards are only 4ft long annoyingly!
