09 coupling advice

Recommended Posts

Thinking about giving 09 another go but I'm curious about couplings. What do you use? I'm a newbie in any scale larger than 4mm so am unsure what couplings work well with 09. I would like to be able to shunt with them but am not bothered about hands free shunting. Did think about just using chain and hooks but could that lead to some sort of buffer lock?

I have three "O9" exhibition layouts. I require and use hands off coupling and uncoupling. I find the "OO9" type (an etch one folds up) sold by the Greenwich and District NG Society for "OO9" use excellent. Generally I only have loops on one end of stock and add a delay pin to the other.

I use 3mm B&B couplings on my 09 stock. They are compatible with the Greenwich couplings plus many others. The couplings from Paul Windle are also compatible but slightly larger and they are available from A1 Models and possibly still from Dundas Models.
