It took me back to a visit I made to the model railway exhibition in Westminster 1965. In it there was a cameo showing part of a semi derelict station with several (actual Kitmaster kit) 'Schools' in various states of destruction. It was a very well executed model though distressing for an impressionable, young steam enthusiast to see. I can't remember the name of the builder. I do remember the name he gave to the cameo - "Class Dismissed." Ian. Thanks Ian, That is interesting, I hadn't heard of that. It sounds a thoughtful cameo. These are popular models for scrapyard dioramas as they're so inexpensive, but that sounds really well done and a cracking title! I'll have to try and find some more information on it. Many thanks, John

RMweb Gold tarifa Posted May 27, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 27, 2021 Obtained the buffers from Lanarkshire Models and Supplies. www.lanarkshiremodels.com The website lists all buffers. I used 16" heads. Mike

33C
Picked up an Airfix "Biggin Hill" kit in the original box, made and badly damaged, at a bootsale for a £1. What do you think of my Bullied, "Sea Battle" class Atlantic, no.21B 5, "Gravelines"/ no.21B 9, "Taranto"? (different name/number each side.) Popular Post Ruston
Perhaps this one isn't eligible for this thread, but it was part of the Airfix range of railway models as it originally came with the Lowmac wagon. Even now the current JCB-only kit still comes with the brake levers for the Lowmac on the sprues. 21

It's how they work. Try testing a remote control by looking at it through your phones camera. You will see the flashes of the infra red. Handy for testing a remote!

Thank you - that's very interesting, I didn't know that. I fit LEDs to all sorts of things and only occasionally photograph them - I tohught it was my poor lighting and/or photography skills that made this happen! I also assumed that the digital camera was recording mor accurately than my eye, but from now on I'll trust my eyes over the camera when it comes to LED brightness...

Ruston
Another mineral. I have tried to make this look like one of those that seem to have had just a thin spray of paint, and rust is coming through almost everywhere, but not in patches.

John The entire thing was painted in a rust colour and left for several days for the paint to properly dry. The grey coat was painted on and within minutes I rubbed it lightly with a cotton bud that was soaked in thinners. 2 1

Popular Post Pierview
This is my Airfix prairie tank kit motorisation which I originally completed in 1997. it has just been given a heart transplant with a replacement Comet chassis kit together with a High Level RR+ gearbox and a Mashima 1420 motor. Needless to say it both looks and runs better than the previous mechanism which, in more impecunious modelling times, I cobbled together from an old K's chassis and a tri-ang XT60 motor. This was very much a locomotive on the cheap and I didn't even use a complete kit. Instead I put together a collection of parts from my scrapbox, a couple of which were original Kitmaster bits, and begged the rest from a friend. I can remember spending an enormous amount of time carefully scraping off the raised lining from the tank sides whilst at the same time trying to preserve the rivet detail. The plastic handrails also had to be shaved off and the surface gently smoothed down with fine flour paper. I am not sure I have the same patience for all that these days! I fitted wire handrails , replacement chimney, safety valve bonnet and whistles together with other extra details including lamp brackets and bunker steps. Looking at the model now I can see that there is more that I could have done but with these upgrades you have to draw the line somewhere. You can't really make a silk purse out of a sow's ear! Killybegs
It was the thought of removing the raised lining that put me off. Well done!
