John, you have certainly captured the crusty state the locos got into during their time at Barry scrapyard.

It took me back to a visit I made to the model railway exhibition in Westminster 1965. In it there was a cameo showing part of a semi derelict station with several (actual Kitmaster kit)  'Schools' in various states of destruction. It was a very well executed model though distressing for an impressionable, young steam enthusiast to see. I can't remember the name of the builder. I do remember the name he gave to the cameo - "Class Dismissed."

Ian.

Thanks Ian,

That is interesting, I hadn't heard of that. It sounds a thoughtful cameo. These are popular models for scrapyard dioramas as they're so inexpensive, but that sounds really well done and a cracking title! I'll have to try and find some more information on it.

Many thanks,

John

Airfix cattle wagon.  Put proper wheels and buffers on it.  I like this model so will build another.506504641_AirfixCattleWagonEnd.jpg.b59d99913ecd8db76c1f455bb6b03b28.jpg1368189023_AirfixCattleWagon.jpg.6d4c1be93f871bf44cd0acf07e888623.jpg

what buffers did you use on that? I've got a few cattle wagons and other airfix wagons that have lost buffers.

Picked up an Airfix "Biggin Hill" kit in the original box, made and badly damaged, at a bootsale for a £1. What do you think of my Bullied, "Sea Battle" class Atlantic, no.21B 5, "Gravelines"/ no.21B 9, "Taranto"? (different name/number each side.)20210802_151311.jpg.49f03a1b1cb73a0bc0dd21a632efe54b.jpg20210802_151737.jpg.630cad312e46c7265f566becda1c3994.jpg20210802_151556.jpg.ea9859f2ca145f92303689cca81e0e45.jpg

Here's the "Sea Battle" class as rebuilt. One side 21B1/30551 "Battle of the Atlantic", and the other side,  21B11/30561 "Trafalgar".

Hello all, here's my first Airfix build (though it was actually the Dapol reissue), from last autumn:

The guard is a modelu figure, and below is a view showing the DCC Concepts LED lamp in action, powered from the track via phosphor-bronze wire wheel pickups - it doesn't look as over-bright as this in normal use, but after too much time spent trying to balance the lighting to get the van itself visible but the light not too bright in defiance of my phone camera's attemtps to re-balance it, this shot seemed the least bad:

A digital camera will always make LEDs look brighter than they appear to a human eye. It's how they work.

Try testing a remote control by looking at it through your phones camera. You will see the flashes of the infra red. Handy for testing a remote!

Thank you - that's very interesting, I didn't know that. I fit LEDs to all sorts of things and only occasionally photograph them - I tohught it was my poor lighting and/or photography skills that made this happen! I also assumed that the digital camera was recording mor accurately than my eye, but from now on I'll trust my eyes over the camera when it comes to LED brightness...

An old Kitmaster Deltic on a plasticard chassis with Hornby ringfield motor. Bodysides were VERY warped but a couple of boiling kettles later.......flush-glazing yet to be done (when i find it.)

That's very effective Ruston. How did you do it?

John

The entire thing was painted in a rust colour and left for several days for the paint to properly dry. The grey coat was painted on and within minutes I rubbed it lightly with a cotton bud that was soaked in thinners.
