bluedepot
hi I have an ho scale piko bb 60000 (an sncf diesel loco) which came sound fitted. it has piko's own make of decoder in it - a 4.1 smart decoder. the sound is far too quiet. I have used function 24 to adjust the volume up and down as it is listed in the instructions but the loudest it goes is still far too quit. I emailed piko but they failed to respond. does anyone have any ideas? many thanks tim
Hamburger
Piko changed from ESU to Uhlenbrock decoders. They only play in the second league and have weak amplifiers. So it is important to optimize the speaker as Richard mentioned. Wolf
bluedepot
ah ok... that's a real shame as its a nice model but I won't buy any others which have piko uhlenbrock speakers in again I will look into changing speakers then and hope that improves the volume many thanks tim
giz
I've noticed that some Piko sound fitted locos have conventional sound decoders and others have a separate sound only decoder that plugs into the SUSI connector of the main decoder. Is one or other of these the Uhlenbrock one or could they be either? I ask because sound for the diesel Stadler GTW only appears to be available from Piko as the SUSI type, I haven't found the sound file available anywhere else. bluedepot
no idea giz but maybe try some dutch model shops that specialise in dcc sound to see if they have alternative stadler gtw sound decoders as a lot of these units seem to run in the Netherlands. Nigelcliffe
One of the main makers of Susi connecting secondary decoders is Dietz, so that's where I'd start looking if a model has a secondary decoder. http://www.d-i-e-t-z.de/ - Nigel
Hamburger
Uhlenbrock = Dietz. Compare the item #s. Piko sound modules = Uhlenbrock/Dietz.
