Adlestrop

Yes.

I remember Adlestrop

The name, because one afternoon

Of heat, the express-train drew up there

Unwontedly. It was late June.

The steam hissed.

Someone cleared his throat.

No one left and no one came

On the bare platform.

What I saw Was Adlestrop—only the name

And willows, willow-herb, and grass,

And meadowsweet, and haycocks dry,

No whit less still and lonely fair

Than the high cloudlets in the sky.

And for that minute a blackbird sang

Close by, and round him, mistier,

Farther and farther, all the birds

Of Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire.

A simple coach window silhouette,  framing the scene above.

Possibly.

The old station sign was put up with a GWR seat at the bus stop nearer the middle of the village. The one in your picture is, I think, a “replica” close to the old station site. Careful with the font, you’ll see slight differences. I’m afraid I haven’t used it for yonks, so I’ve forgotten what it’s called.

The poem also appeared on a plaque in the shelter.

I hope the original board and seat in the bus shelter are still there, that 'replica' is so obviously a fake. Nice idea, but there's nothing ever quite like the real thing, and wondering whether the board that got saved was the actual one that Edward Thomas was looking at. CJL)

Thanks Chris.

From the actual  text, the platform was bare:

"On the bare platform.

What I saw Was Adlestrop—only the name

And willows, willow-herb, and grass,

And meadowsweet, and haycocks dry,"

so what I'll model instead is just a name board at the back edge of the brick-paved platform, with an old fence and appropriate foliage behind.

I'll also use a 6"x 8" base, with a 8" height to get the "high cloudlets" in.

Added some bricks and slabs:

The huge gap between the platform bricks and the edge slabs is not really there, it's a shadow and will disappear with some paint.

The card has been scored between the slabs, but these knife lines may need a little widening.

A beautiful poem and a wonderful idea too, being superbly executed Stubby47. I wonder if a CD is available of typical Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire birdsong......?

I have thought about a sound track - there are several recordings of the poem on line and a mix including throat clearing and birdsong could be made.

It's just not so easy to convey that in a photo.

Given the relevance of the poem to the concept for this entry, worth asking the adjudicators / editors if provision for a sound (video?) submission can be made - I may not model in DCC surround sound, but many do. Just a thought.
