calvin Streeting
HI All (didn't see there was a section for 3d printers) I use a crap, bodged, fixed and modified FDM printer to make parts for building (and other stuff) on my layout. but basicaly i draw and print kits and parts. for example the tower and stone work, footbridge, windows, and point rodding are pirnted but the stone walls are plasticard etc.. I thought i would post here as well as in layout section but concentrate on printer stuff here.. and 9 1
calvin Streeting
i have come to conlcusion that 3d printers don't speed up model making .. they just make you do more.. in this i have 3d printed, windows, boxes. barrels, pub sign etc.... (printer stated to get a slip on y axis that did not matter for crapy old boxes , but thats now fixed again... crap cheep chinese printer) 6

calvin Streeting
and onto the yard track.. hopeing and so far so good to print track base (@140mm Radius) so far so good 11.25 degree angle works best atm as alot of friction feeding in the rail. couplerings are tight, but this part is single truck shunt so should be ok for my needs. the center is clear for latter Air Dry Clay Cobbles next to see if i can get this to work.. the hole is for a micro servo. 2

calvin Streeting
Thanks.. Slowly getting there, have to design/draw/print a crank mechinusium for a pump house, but also managed to get a test turnout working.. The Aim is that a micro servo is droped in from above, so that if it fails it can be replaced and serviced.. rather than RIP all up etc.. this version kind of works, but i am going to move point blade to the drop in part and improve the cam.. but HAPPY with result so far.. and for those NOT seen this yet... this is a canal pump machine to bring water up from low level to top up a canal... on my thingverse etc 2 1
calvin Streeting
ok so update to turnout mechinisum (that drops in from above for maintance etc... i think i got it better all though i might rotate servo 180 its alot better than th CAM mech, and takes a standard servo horn that hides away printed the servo part and the main turnout is printing now (2hrs to go) i hope to upload a video one done.. 2
calvin Streeting
As I only now have roof to do, i have put pub windows and sign etc on thingyverse https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3472929
calvin Streeting
update: Test on yard turnout are going well .. might have to get some metal gear servos, rather than cheep ones and slow down this 0-4-0 as ludicrus speed is a bit to fast... and get a stay alive chip to avoid 0-4-0 pickup problems.. (but not turnout is elector frog, and hence 2 switches to flip power atm.. could put it on Thingyverse as "work in progress" if anyone is intrested
calvin Streeting
Test of 3d printed yard track turn out, using horndy 0-4-0 desiel and guagemaster DCC27 and home built "Stay Alive" cap Note: the only times it stops is when rocrail set speed to Zero. (not due to pickup Failure etc Still need to replace couperling, but i think thats a go ahead with yard track... (or at least print more parts etc.. VERY HAPPY ... calvin Streeting
and truck shunting Blimey lots of post about trains.. not buildings for once ... YAY I got final pass wrong, forgot to flip the frog switch...
calvin Streeting
so onto the coupler i want to leave trucks as standad version, but that little loco and another i want to be able to control the coupler, trucks can be shunted over standard un-coupler but loco needs to un-couple where ever i need (boy thats a lot of repeated words.. ) but anyway i salvaged some magnets from old headphones, and have some coil wire so going to try and print this out so it uses the coil to repel the magnet and thus lift the coupler, this might be feed by transistor circuit.. it sits just behind buffer beem and is only 9mm x 9mm etc. so pushing my printer to thinist tolarance
calvin Streeting
well it printed. and balance is correct defualt down magnet is bluetacked in place to test.. onto makeing coil
calvin Streeting
After 4th attempt to rob a old relay of its wire, and wind my own coil, using lego took ages and lots of &*&# but anyway test 2 complete.. success. now to learn coli maths and build transistor gate so not to blow up DCC chip, ooh and buy wire as easyer than robing it
