I would like to see some of the 142s on their final journey especially behind a loco so I will try and make it out to see some of these moves. That's an excellent photo of Evolution. I do quite like this one especially with the refurbished interior and the livery is quite nice, I'm just not sure about the ironing board style seats inside! Even on short journeys I have always got off with back ache.
Owd Bob
18-11-'19. After a weekend visit back home my eldest had to catch the train back to her home in Chelmsford. So i saw her off from a very chilly Wigan North Western station, any excuse to take the camera out and stand on a station. I managed a few pics' of 142 023 which was sat waiting to take the 7.09pm to Stalybridge out. First time i ever really got to notice close up the handrail on the front under the windscreen which is often almost hidden by the Black paint. Nice rotted out hole under the guards side window. The Driver told me another one had just been brought back into service yesterday and he could'nt knock the service that these units have given, he also said he thought the way things are they'll be here well beyond the end of next Jan'
eastwestdivide
A couple at Rotherham Parkgate today, a 142 and a 3-car 144 (I'd prefer the latter if I was catching one):
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted November 19, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 19, 2019 Here is 144006 at Wakefield Westgate station on Sunday, on a service from Leeds to Sheffield via Moorthorpe. It departed Leeds on time at 12.48 from platform 5c and was quite full. A musty smell inside with the paintwork looking like it has seen better days. It got me through to Wakefield, and was reasonably smooth on the CWR. Best regards, Rob.

Talltim
Another one at Chesterfield, a three car 144 waits in platform 3 to return to Leeds having been cancelled on the Chesterfield-Nottingham section of the service. Interestingly another Nottingham-Leeds Northern service formed of two 153s was in platform 2, which although bidirectional is normally only used for southbound trains. I don’t know the reason for it. The only time I’ve seen this before was when the lifts weren’t working and some slick work saw a southbound train with a wheelchair passenger put in platform 1 and a northbound train put in 2 to go round it 10

RMweb Gold Market65 Posted November 23, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 23, 2019 Having a look at some old photo’s, and I came across this one of an unidentifiable class 142 at the north end of York station on the 17th July, 2014. It was just about to depart on a Harrogate service at 16.57. Best regards, Rob.
eastwestdivide
No photo, but the first Leeds-Moorthorpe-Sheffield stopper today was formed of a 158 with one car dead (no engine, no interior lights except the door buttons and a scrolling display "Welcome on board") plus one 142 on the back doing most of the work it seemed. Not too late into Sheffield, and as a bonus a 158 with no engine noise is quite a nice place to be by comparison!
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted November 24, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 24, 2019 I went into Hull in the afternoon, and saw some 142’s. Firstly here’s a photo’ of two 142’s, not coupled together, in the sidings just beyond platform one at 15.37. They were, unfortunately, just too far away to get their unit numbers. Then, just after taking that photo’, in came 142020 on an ECS working. Indeed there were a number of ECS workings including one of 155343 too. Please excuse the light levels in these two photo’s, it was nearly dark. Best regards, Rob.
manna
G'Day Folks I read a question a while back about the use of 142's and 144's being used on the S&C, here's a picture of both at Appleby, long way away unfortunately, but still conformation that they did get up that way. manna
Mark Saunders
Today was the beginning of the end with Northern units 142 016, 022 & 025 left Heaton this morning going off hire and heading to Worksop! 3 1

Funny you should say this because I was just about to post the exact same comment. I assume that their are another potentially 14 units from Heaton to be transferred to Worksop that have already been removed from service by Northern. As well as obviously further units that will be removed from service when further 195s and 331s enter traffic. Mick advised on another thread that FL and GBRf have been awarded the contracts to move the pacers for scrap by Rail. Simms metal at Newport is the mentioned destination with also talk of some going to Eastleigh Works for conversion into RHTTs. Thanks to Mick for this gen.
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted November 30, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 30, 2019 On the other railway forum I belong, it is reported that Booth’s of Rotherham, have bought several Pacers - exact number not yet known - to be delivered from next week for scrapping. I’ll post more info when it becomes available. Regards, Rob.
Owd Bob
29-11-19. Crows Nest Junction, Hindley Nr. Wigan. 1.30pm-2.30pm. A bit of a frosty day and the 142's are still around in numbers here, with 003, 024, 048, 046, with 094 coupled to 089 being the latest units new to be seen in this area i think?
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted November 30, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 30, 2019 It has just been reported, on that other railway forum, that 142037, 142052 and 142064 have all departed on their way to Worksop, i.e. Booth’s, for scrapping this morning. So that is six 142’s between today and yesterday that will not be seen in traffic again. Rob. 1 1
RMweb Premium DRS Crewe On A Mission Posted November 30, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 30, 2019 Interesting that Booths at Rotherham is the destination it appears for the first six pacers. Unless some of the other pacers are to go to Simms Metal at Newport. Also for anyone interested apparently their is a further movement planned for tomorrow for another three pacers from Heaton to Worksop. Unfortunately I don't have any timings, identification of units or any further details. This information is from a friend on Twitter so please don't quote me on it or shoot the messenger haha. I just thought it may be of use for anyone wanting to see or photograph the moves to Worksop etc who may already be out spotting tomorrow. If I get any further info on this planned move I will post it. Hope this is of some use.
RMweb Premium Northmoor Posted November 30, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 30, 2019 I'm old-fashioned and don't understand anything that isn't a 3-link, screw link or a buckeye. What do you use to tow Pacers off to the scrapyard (I'm thinking coupler compatibility)? 37/6, 57, or anything with an adaptor wagon...?

eastwestdivide
After seeing this post showing Pacers in N America, as well as the bus done up to look like one: I was reminded me I also had a shot of the "MetroTrain bus" alongside a 141 at Doncaster Works in 1984. The post linked above says it's a Bristol LH: 8
eastwestdivide
Now that withdrawals are gathering pace, time for one from February - a pair of 142s on a Sheffield-Leeds stopping service take a "wrong turn", avoiding the branch into Booths scrapyard at Rotherham, which is occupied by a loco delivering wagons to be scrapped: 7
