Pace Yourself - photos of the final(?) Pacer countdown

Only thing is one pacer would get quite full on the ELR or NYMR.

Especially on the NYMR as even on a normal day trains are quite full.

Full up and squashed in would be even more realistic then.

Well, 142029 has just arrived at Worksop. Presumably it joins the others waiting to be scrapped. Here’s a link to RTT:

https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/N18001/2019-12-09/detailed

There are paths to Worksop each day of this week. I’ve seen a photo’ posted on the other forum showing 142005 reduced to it’s underframe. That will soon be gone too from the speed of the scrapping.

Regards,

 Rob.

I have also read yesterday that up to five 142 pacers may be saved and sold on to private railways. I have no further details as of yet as to which railways these are, but when I do I will post here.

I am sure that this is a proposal to which the late Colonel Stephens would be able to give his approval as they are a marginal update to his renowned railcars. I trust that the likes of the K&ESR and EKR will be preparing their bids! Just the thing for rural by-ways with jointed track . . .

It gets more and more interesting. These 142’s are now reported to be going to TfW next Sunday, the 15th.

142012/142014/142019/142046/142049.

Rob.

Edit. Those 142’s are actually going to Sims of Newport Docks for scrapping.

I assume they are being driven down to Newport rather than being dragged?  I hope they make sure they have enough fuel to make it :D

Yes it will be good to still have some that are intact and not scrapped. Even if said railways only intend to keep them for static viewing by the public it's better than not having any left at all to look at.

Thanks for posting. Mick mentioned earlier on this thread that Freightliner and GBRf have been contracted to remove any pacers required to be loco hauled for scrap. So it could be a Freightliner 66 or a GBRf 47 or 66 out of their fleets I would think if a loco is to be used.

Nope - it's drivers that are being provided by FL/GBRf

Can anyone tell if 142049 is still in service?  I’m curious about it as it’s the one that travelled to Canada

It was running less than two weeks ago.......

My last ride (and no more planned)  on a 142 was 001.............

Destined for preservation and repainting in the orange/brown of GMPTE.

A friend of mine in the US wants to ship it back and run it up and down a short strip of track he owns but is getting nowhere with the leasing company.  He’s emailed them a few times but no response.  Even got a quote from a shipping company to take it to the other side of the pond and transport by road to Arizona.
