RMweb Gold adb968008 Posted February 14, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 14, 2020 (edited) Rumour control seems to be suggesting a new livery and new operator for 144’s awaits..., maybe a new holiday destination for Pacer enthusiasts too... New nickname could be Tren de Rebote or Pacer del sol perhaps ? Edited February 14, 2020 by adb968008 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post 46444 Posted February 20, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 20, 2020 (edited) Yesterday I visited Osbourne's in Rushden and placed my yearly orders with Will. Osbourne's is an excellent traditional model shop with a toy department. Well worth a visit if your in East Northamptonshire. I happened to note that Class 142's are running on the Wellingborough-Higham Branch... This one's on its way back to Neville Hill for serving I believe... In all seriousness I could not believe my eyes having travelled down from my West Yorkshire Pacer stamping ground. Two pairs have been preserved on the Rushden Heritage Line 142 084 and 142 091. Apparently they went for a good price and are in full working order. I was allowed to look around them under supervision. Lovely to see these two in their new setting. If the Wellingborough-Higham Ferrers branch had survived I'm sure the humble Pacer would have been a success on the line. RMweb Premium Northmoor Posted February 20, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 20, 2020 While I'm glad to see a few Pacers survive, I'll admit to being a little cynical as to what they'll look like in 5-10 years time. History repeats itself; "Thumpers" were taken on enthusiastically by preservationists 20 years ago because they were effectively free from the ROSCO. How many of them are now being actively used - some are still awaiting their first repaint to be completed - I can only think of two lines regularly using them. It's notable that many of those lines acquiring Pacers are "starter" lines, who often appear to measure their success by the amount of rolling stock they've managed to collect. Mark Saunders
I wonder how many Railways who have acquired these have got an adapter coupling to move them dead with a locomotive?
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted February 21, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 21, 2020 (edited) Yesterday, I was in Sheffield, and saw 144023 on the 16.32 to Doncaster. Then, a few minutes later, 144 013 arrived from Leeds. Best regards, Rob. eastwestdivide
Meadowhall yesterday, taken through a window on the bridge while sheltering from a sudden downpour: Earlier, I'd been over at Elsecar, and one of the Sheffield-Penistone-Huddersfield turns was unusually a pair of 153s. The 144s are normally pretty much staple fare for that line:
RMweb Gold 4630 Posted February 24, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 24, 2020 (edited) Apparently, once withdrawn from service with Northern, 144011 has been acquired by the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. Cheers, Mark 142084 is noteworthy as it was fitted with Perkins 2006-TWH engines in 1991 as a trial to find a replacement for the original Leyland TL11s. The Cummins LT10R was decided on, but 142084 ran with the Perkins power units for several years. Edited February 26, 2020 by pacerfan
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted February 26, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 26, 2020 Good evening, and earlier today, I saw the shortened class 144, 144021, as running without it’s MS. Here it is, at Beverley station on the 12.30 to York, ex Bridlington. Best regards, Rob.

Glorious NSE
Some from a rather wet Exeter Central, 20th Feb, with three of the fleet showing up in the 40mins we waited - the plan to pair them with a compliant 150 seems to be working down here...

In a similar story to the other two outposts of paceryness, the GWR fleet has had to be kept on past the deadline due to late arrival of other stock (769s and HST trailers in GWR's case).... In normal working the 143/150 combos work Exmouth to Paignton, like the photos above I have seen 143/150 formations on my visits to Exeter. While 158s work Barnstaple to Exeter Central/St James Park on separate diagrams. Edit - the service has been split thus because there is now a half hourly Exmouth - Paignton service during the day. This leaves no line capacity for the Barnstaple trains beyond St James Park as the Exmouth branch can only accomodate two trains per hour each way. cheers Edited February 27, 2020 by Rivercider Additional info 1
