Whiteball Tunnel

I have just seen a piece on the Spotlight News, that Whiteball Tunnel is closed for repairs for the next 3 weeks. I thought that the tunnel was relined with spray on concrete a few years back. ISTR that CK was involved in it, before his well deserved retirement.

SOME of the tunnel was relined, most of it wasnt.

 

The bit which was relined is very thin concrete as you can see the re-bar lines very easily.

 

It always looked like half a job, whether it was or wasnt I couldnt say.

I found out about this when buying prepaid tickets a couple of weeks ago for a trip in March. It will be a pleasant change to travel from Bristol to Axminster and back via Salisbury!

Judging by the performance over the first 2 days of the diversion - you may well revise that opinion - I have to commute Yeovil Jn to Waterloo for the next 6 days and am dreading it ................................
