There is of course another way that has just occurred to me....having just done a shop at the very Sainsbury’s . That is to use Burton’s efficient and reasonably priced taxi service from the station to Greenbank Leisure Centre. An attractive proposition particularly if you are travelling with friends but best in any case if using the train.

It's only 5.3 miles, bring some shorts and jog it in 50 minutes.

Hi all

For those worried about  getting to the venue by bus on Saturday from BOT train station.

Catch a Midland classic (Yellow and red) bus from outside train station opposite side of road and ask for a routemaster ticket (£3.50 adult £2.40 child)

Or if two travelling together ask for a  duo ticket (£5.00). A  number 8 will take you all the way to swaddlincote but this takes the longest way round or take a bus to town centre and change in town and catch a 4, 9, or 19 to swad.

Journey times the above routes are 20/25 mins and  run every 15 mins.

Hope this helps.

A train station is a place where you can catch trains. There are railway stations but since Beeching (and before) many of them no longer have trains. Recently passengers who endure ‘Southern’ have discovered the difference between a train station and a railway station ;)

Why do people who insist on using the term 'train station' not refer to places such as Heathrow as a 'planeport'?

Surely a planeport is a place where you can catch planes!

Train station? What's that?

A place where trains become stationary? Although these days they seem to stop everywhere on the rail network ;-)

What’s wrong with that.... Heathrow plane port...... Southampton ship park and  and Victoria bus harbour all have a ring to them :)

I am pleased to announce that we will have a vintage Routemaster running from Burton station to Greenbank Leisure Centre on the Sunday (when there is a reduced public service).

The special service will be more or less hourly, but please check the timetable on the Showcase website for further details as the timings are designed to coincide with the show opening times.

As a fully paid up member of the Pedant Society [that is pronounced "Pee Dant" by the way], I should point out that in terms of passenger movements, Heathrow is the busiest port in the UK. That it can also be described as an "airport" is irrelevant. It is just a port and any further description is probably superfluous.

Hi everyone,

It's only a couple of weeks until DEMU Showcase 2019 (1 & 2 June) so here's a preview.

In T scale the 3D printed layout 'The Bridge' recreates the entire famous Forth Bridge.

Moving up to N scale is Horseblock Lane, which takes you back to the colourful West Midlands railways in the Naughties. Photo credited to Paul Bason

Wow some interesting comments on this one! :banghead:

Let’s face it the town hall venue needed changing many years ago and we all know the reasons why!

Well done to the organisers for finding an alternative venue, the show anywhere is better than nowhere.:clapping:

Thanks Andrew P for the parking information, most helpful.

As an extra request, can the great unwashed take a shower before attending the show.:stinker:

See you Sunday think I’ll be able to get there but then again....

Cheers

Daz

Hi Daz, there is always those who don’t like change, think it is easy to organise an exhibition (especially when your venue changes at short notice ) but fear not.

I’m expecting these experts to come to the AGM on Saturday after the show and put themselves forward to take over the reigns and and show, Guy, Tom, George and I how it should be done.

See you all in a couple of weeks for our 25th anniversary show.

Looking forward to our annual jaunt from sunny Worthing to the Midlands on the 1st. Spanker and myself, and hopefully Mark and Martin, will be up before the larks and trundling round the M25 in search of modelling excellence as usual. Having previously attended DEMU as a visitor and exhibitor, it will be interesting to see how the show works at Swad instead. The exhibition team should be rightly applauded for their efforts in finding a suitable alternative venue; the decision to use Swad will have been taken after much due consideration, not on a whim.

On another note, Doug's "The Bridge" came to our Worthing show two years ago and drew a very appreciative crowd, so it will be good to see it again. It's a pity that the public will not see the time and patience required to set the whole layout up...it was the first time I have seen cars being parked/placed using fine-nosed tweezers.

Roll on 1st June!

Why do we have ‘car’ parks when we fill them with motorised bicycles,  vans and pickup trucks along with very large off-road vehicles....

why do we have ‘roadworks’ when it’s plain to all in the congestion that the road isn’t working.....

trains stop at stations, Railways don’t. Who cares if they are called railway or train stations. Many of the operators are called train companies (eg West Midlands Trains) and the collective is train operating companies.

We don't have 'roadworks' we have 'road works', also we have 'street works' - which is not the same.
