RMweb Premium ELTEL Posted February 27, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 27, 2019 I have a number of Hornby coaches that I wish to add passengers and lighting. At today’s cost of Coaches I am fearful of damaging the Coaches How do I separate body and chassis ? Are there any Utube videos on the subject. Thanks Eltel
John Tomlinson
The modern Hornby coaches that I have, of various types, share a fixing system. If you turn the coach upside down, resting on a soft surface, you'll see four Perspex colour clear prongs in the corners - you don't need to remove the bogies. The prongs are say 3mm long and little oblongs. They are part of the glazing moulding and secure the body to the chassis. Carefully using a small screwdriver blade, release these prongs one at a time from the chassis, lifting away the chassis as you do so. They push inwards. When you've done all four, slip a cocktail stick between body and chassis and slide towards the centre. This will release two lugs in the middle of the chassis and body and chassis will separate. This is easier to do than it sounds, and you don't need to force the bogies from the chassis base, which can take a lot of force and therefore could be damaging.
