AMJ
Just been past Stourton FLT there were 2 trains in a short while ago One on the south had just 66420 on it However the one to the north next to the running line and obscured by the fence had 2 locos including 66596 at the Leeds end. To save on track capacity I have seen movements consisting of 3/4 locos from the terminal to Midland Road via Holbeck due to crossovers. Must be a mega freight or some form of loco positioning move.
Pete the Elaner
If it is for a loco movement, this is better than running a light engine. It saves having to find an extra path & also accelerates the service. This was the reason 45637 Windward Islands was involved in the Harrow disaster: It was pilot engine for 46202 Princess Anne, which was more than able to cope with the train on its own. great central
Regarding light engine movements on my way back from Liverpool yesterday I was passed by no less than three on the Erewash valley between Clay Cross and Trowell. First up was a Freightliner 66, then a Colas 37 followed by a plain blue 66 just as I turned onto the branch at Trowell, could have been DRS or ex DRS?
