I don’t intend to do a lot of shows each year (3-4): not sure I can afford the time and energy, which is a shame as they are enjoyable.

So far, there are provisional bookings for the following:

Doncaster, February 8-9, 2020; (confirmed)

Biggleswade, February 2020; (confirmed)

Portsmouth (South Hants), November, 2022

I will announce confirmations and other invites as they happen.

No. It is boxed up and in store in my garage, pending a house move.

There are plenty on the web: clink on the links in the first post, and you will be taken to them.

As an update, changing personal circumstances mean modelling has been on hold this year, with no idea yet when they will resume.

However, the issue with the six-wheel coach has been identified: no side-play on the centre axle, so it runs wonderfully well on straight track, but does a very good example of demonstrating Newton’s laws of motion when it encounters a curve.

New date added;

Bishop’s Castle, March 21, 2020.

Well, I couldn’t not go to the first Bishop’s Castle Model Railway Exhibition in over 30 years, could I?

Good news, I will, I hope, get there and be glad to see Lydham Heath in the metaphorical flesh for the first time.

Barry's scenic and grass work has stood the test of time according to those photos. Unless it has faded since, I'm not sure it will need extensive 'static grassing'? Its great that you have taken on this seminal layout and that it will be back on display in shows around the country.

The following show dates are coming up:

Doncaster, February 8-9, 2020;

Biggleswade, 15 February 2020; and

Bishop’s Castle, March 21, 2020.

At the moment, Lydham Heath is set up in the garage for pre-exhibition testing, and a small number of photos without stock are shown.

I have done nothing at all to the layout: this is simply how it looked when unpacked after 14 months in storage!

Those blue remembered hills

The question is, are you quoting Housman, or Rice quoting Housman?

It was Mr Rice quoting Housman in one of his layout design books that led me to first read 'A Shropshire lad'.

Ditto.

We can add that to the list of benefits from our wide-ranging hobby!

Also on-going is transverse triangulation to the legs, to stop the wobble.

This shot is “work in progress” (and hence untidy!) as not all of the leg pairs are done, but as well as the triangulation, there is a cross-beam which is a couple of inches shorter than the layout at this point, fitted with height-adjustable feet at each end.

The strange red markings on the wood are from an incident involving my left thumb and a double-pointed saw, which is why I stopped working on the layout: silly injury means it is time to stop, before making a serious injury!

Edit: I hasten to add that the bottle was opened (and the contents consumed) after and not before the incident with the saw.
