Introducing the MK2Fs makes the RBR even more conspicuous by its absence. Bachmann have allowed Hornby to fill this gap in 00, so the chances of BachFar doing one in N are provably even smaller than they were last year but yes, I agree totally. Far more useful than the RU

A refurbished RBR(RU) or RUB would not require a completely new  model. Although a RB/RBR would be nice I would be happy with either.

Have just looked through the Bachmann website (Farish diesels and steam locos) this morning and have noticed that some items seem to have dropped off the 'radar' for the moment, notably for me the blue 08 ?

As to be expected in these strange times proposed arrival dates for other items seem to be constantly changing which for me personally is not too bad a thing as I have several items ordered that were at one point nearly all due to arrive in a short space of time......which would have taken some explaining to the wife !

Disappointing that the 8F has slipped again to Oct/Nov as that is the only Farish model that I am currently interested in, no explaining for that one being needed in my case as the sound fitted one is to be my birthday present, although I guess it might end up being Christmas!

It must be quite a challenge to keep to any production schedule in the current global climate, so I guess we just have to accept that scheduled delivery dates are a best guess and they actually just arrive when they arrive (in fact wasn't it always so really?).

What surprises me is that simple reruns of 47s have taken so long. Just about anyone modelling anything post 1965 needs a few of these.

Some of the liveries promised 4-5 years ago on the Dmus will already be obsolete and possibly extinct when they finally come out. That can't make business sense. Remember the days when Lima tried to get out new liveries within a month of the prototype?

Dmus are the things most desperately needed so good news on the 170s, but we need 158s and 150s too. (I wonder if the 170s are using the old chassis or can we expect something new?)

We have almost no coaches in the privatisation liveries. Surely Arriva, DRS or Virgin Mk2 coaches would sell?

Modern N gauge is in a real mess right now.

There's some items that were announced in Feb 2019 that were reliveries of existing products that still don't have a production date, even though Bachmann have listed release dates for items up to March 2021, so it will be over two years since the announcement until they arrive.

I don't doubt that Bachmann Europe PLC are well aware of that being a problem, and I imagine they're quite worried about it.

This is undoubtedly why they created the EFE Rail brand as a way to generate turnover by selling models manufactured in factories outside of the Kader / Bachmann empire.

I can't imagine any of us know whether Kader really is having more production difficulties than other manufacturers, or whether there is some kind of strained relationship between Kader head office and Bachmann Europe PLC.

But whatever the cause, Bachmann / Farish are more constrained than other model commissioning companies (don't think manufacturers is the right word anymore) because they are the "daughter company" of the Chinese manufacturer, so are really dependent on their whims and willingness to allocate production slots. They can't shop around for a different factory or move some production to other countries, like Hornby or Dapol can.

The market has been moving towards a much wider range of smaller companies commissioning more specialist models on a pre-order only or limited batch basis for quite some time now. And not only in British N. The era of big manufacturers maintaining a catalogue of regularly available models with a focus on distribution through many retailers is clearly declining. There's many disadvantages with that, but it's the way the tide is running ...
